This is a real world situation.

Some may have seen this article, it is quite interesting, also thinking about how those in the industry would have to deal with this.

This isn't that big of a deal. Of course, the media would beg to differ or at least beg to amp up the story to a situation about what could happen if the runways aren't numbered correctly: pilots not finding runways. The articles I've read about this lack any further information about how all airline flights are turned towards the airport by controllers with a map of all things aeronautical on the radar scope, and ho VFR pilots don't look up a runway and then fly a compass heading to land on it, contrary to what this article implies.

I think this has a bigger effect on the virtual ARTCCs on VATSIM than it does in the real world. VATSIM controllers will be dealing with telling pilots about the new configurations for years to come.

Pretty much.. This will be similar to the KPHX issue between FS2000 and FS2002 when the new runway was built there, and the KATL issue when the new ones were built there as well. Hopefully, the next "version" of a MS Flight Simulator will have it corrected. they certainly have the time to update their database.

Seems a bit sensationalist.

Finally, Northerners can't call us Carolinians "Southerners!"

Quite the opposite. Real world speaking, it isn't much of a problem, as databases and charts can easily be updated per NOTAMs and the latest AIRAC cycle.

Here, on the other hand, it would take slight mods to existing scenery to fix it; something that took a while to fix with PHX during the FS2K/FS2K2 days, as it was updated real world roughly 2 months after FS2000 came out.

We should be grateful. Who I feel sorry for are the Uranians. Uranus rotates on its SIDE.

If we woke up tomorrow with a West Pole and an East Pole, it'd take months to reprint all those charts.

Ah, sure. Maybe don't mention Uranus and magnetism on the first visit.

This happens from time to time, runways are always being repainted for the slight change in magnetic orientation. Authority posts NOTAM, databases and charts updated, no big deal, the nice thing about flying in Northern Domestic Airspace is the runway orientations are in true.

That's interesting. It makes sense, but I would have never even thought about it. Is that the same towards the south pole?
