i cant figure by reading manual or by trying, how to get the pmdg 747 aligned.

Normal procedures say "IRS SELECTORS ………………………………………………………OFF, then NAV, then ALIGN"

FMC manual say
"To align the IRU’s, rotate each knob from
OFF to NAV (they are spring loaded to the
NAV position when rotating from OFF).
Selecting NAV will begin the alignment
process. "
"Present position must be entered into the
unit individually as needed.
POS INIT page of the FMC/CDU in order to
complete the alignment process."

ive try do all in different order (ive try option 15 and 120 sec align time), enter FMC IRS pos, then NAV then wait, then ALIGN then wait. First NAV then IRS pos.
it say 2 min to align then 1..0 then ...no instrument align. (and then it say 7min to align after set knob to ALIGN, and suddanly message "enter IRS pos" but it is already enter ?)

only after second retry OFF..NAV and again enter IRS pos then the instrument align. but it strange and i not really know what i do to success.

anybody know how to align after power ON ?

"Precision Manuals" is an integral part of their name.....and I'm not at all sure why.

Its because the first products Rob sold were Aircraft Operating Manuals for the 747.

The first was for the PS1 747, then a manual for the FS98 747 came soon afterwards.

But also included in the FS98 version was a .air file you could use to upgrade your 747, that's
basically the start of it all.

Pretty amazing considering the fairly simple beginnings.

Regards
Ernie Alston.

Lennart,

The type rating course material, under lesson 1 (page 1-5) from PMDG, they state they "goofed" on the Normal procedures checklist and "the correct instructions should read:
IRS SELECTORS......OFF, then NAV."

The switches are spring loaded to the NAV position and the IRS align time will display on the NAV display.

That's it!

Just right-click them once to put them in the NAV position after you turn on the power. Remember that they take ten minutes to align. If you don't want to wait ten minutes, there's an option in the PMDG menu to make it instant, or to set it to whatever time you like. It takes ten minutes by default in the sim because that's how long it takes in real life (depending on latitude—the higher the latitude, the longer the alignment takes). Do not move the aircraft until the IRUs are aligned. You'll know when they are ready because the PFD lights up (and there's a message on the ND that tells you how much time remains before alignment is complete).

At some point during the alignment process, you must tell the IRUs where you are by entering your position on the POS INIT page of the FMC. You click your longitude and latitude into the scratchpad, then up into the IRS position field. If the aircraft has been moved since the last full alignment, you'll have to enter your position twice (a safety feature that exists on the real-world aircraft and is faithfully simulated by PMDG).
