Ah,

thanks for the explanation, Jean-Frederik. Well, I´m not a native speaker, so it´s possible that I´m not using exactly the right terms.

So, if we use the term qualification now for what you described, w are missing one necessary step in the ratings ladder, because the C3 rating is not available. As of now we only have two rating advancement steps (S1=>S3 and S3=>C1), but we are in need for three to do three qualification exams (tower, approach and center).

Have we?

We were told with 10 days to run our interpretation of the policy was wrong and therefore breached the policy.

In the Uk only one of our seven training areas has a viable sweatbox training option, the others having just used online training in the past. Therefore OBS will either need to be promoted without ever controlling, or have to wait until the other areas have constructed all the files necessary for sweatbox and created a training plan.

Come the 1st of January we will have people who have never proved in a practical sense their operational and procedural ability; or new members having to wait until their training area has created new files which could take ......?

Neither options seem really in the 'spirit' of the policy and in my opinion no where near "very workable solutions".

Funnily enough the Uk were looking into making a generic ATC training school, however were told we could not do it as it forced training off the network and didn't allow people online immediately. How times change eh!

Benny is correct in saying that only one of our Regional Training Schemes is fully ready with a Sweatbox option for training. The others will be using a mix of oral and role play scenarios until we have the necesarry files are made for sweatbox.

If anyone needs help making TWRTrainer files, please feel free to post in the Sweatbox forum. I will be monitoring it and will help where I can. I'm about to make a post there that describes an undocumented feature in VRC that helps quite a bit. (Extracting mouse coordinates via the clipboard.)
Totally out of topic but, can anyone tell me how does EuroScope blip-driving performs in terms of routing, a/c perf, speed adjustments??

Just curious..
Not off topic at all in my view. Euroscope is a dream come true for the blip driver - the aircraft can be set to follow routes, waypoint to waypoint and they will fly a hold correctly (simplified). They turn/climb/descend etc after a pre-programmed delay which feels very much closer to reality than ACSim. Headings are correct and they fly the ILS correctly. Speeds I've never checked but it just feels right. You can even train yourself in auto mode and drive the blips directly as you assign headings, altitudes and speeds through the tag. Taxying departures is so simple - just click with the mouse to lay a "breadcrumb" route and the aircraft will follow it - no airport file required!

Whilst you can connect to Euroscope's simulator with VRC it doesn't do much more than display the aircraft - not much use for familiarisation with the features of VRC or I presume ASRC. But if new trainees choose to use Euroscope....

Right now you gave me one damn good reason to install it, but I'll still need to learn all of it...

One thing I find is too bad is that the name EuroScope makes me feel it's not for VATcanadians...

Jean,

I can assure that we never had any idea to limit its usage to Europe only. The name just refers to the similarity to the systems in Europe and of course the origin of the software.

And even not all European countries use anything you could call a "European system" (no such thing). There are some that use American ones.

People have been wondering how to overcome the problem of training students - Observers - with live online traffic. In CrovACC we have been doing the following for probably well over a year now.

When I log on with a student I pay may full attention to them to assist them. With this I log on as Tower or whatever and I allow them to control a certain position on my frequency. My Director and I have been doing this and it has been quite scuccessful. Actually I believe SCGvACC and BiH vACC have been doing this as well with their students.

Aside from this it is sweatbox. We have not been having any problems with any of our students. To us a rating is a rating and now with this policy in effect the ratings have more of a meaning behind them.

My question is how are the standards for CPTs etc going to change in VATEUD to conform with these. In my vACC even when I became a C1, I had to pass a Center CPT to earn my C1 rating and not an APP CPT. Now I am trying to get my SC so I can potentially learn some EUR Control.

Our CPT standards will be adjusted to be in line with the new policy. It will take us a little bit longer as expected, because a new version of our rating and training management software (Eurotest) is currently in development. When this new Eurotest 4 will be ready, updated CPT requirements will also be introduced.

@Martin - "our" CPT standards - what exactly do you mean by "our"?
