A few of us have been discussing a departure route over at KIND and I would like to get some PMDG or Level D flyers opinions on what you have been doing during your departure from KIND. Seeing as KIND just had an event surely some folks have run across this.

The question came up when I was departed KIND via the DAWNN3.BWG departure (in the Level D not on Vatsim at the time). I followed vectors are noted in the text description to get on my way towards DAWNN. About 15 miles out I punched over to LNAV mode and the plan banked left and began to circle. Strange I thought.

I tried the 1L LSK to get a 'direct-to' DAWNN command in there but the results were the same. I figured I would try the whole thing the next day since obviously I had missed something at some point. Second results were the same.

I headed over to NaviGraph to discuss what I though were issues with cycle 0811 and the Level D. The responses were very helpful and helped explain what was going on. The SID is missing the transition information from the runway (23R) to DAWNN. Aha - that's my issue. Another community member reviewed the SID information for the PMDG and found that the same information has been omitted (rwy transition).

My question and really just for verification, have any PMDG or Level D guys also noticed this on the DAWNN DP ? Naturally the easy fix is to just vector to the intersection or head direct to the transition.

Thanks-

Benjamin

For PMDG users the solution is simple...

After installing the current cycle from Navigraph. Go to AVSIM and download Dan Downs' refined procedures for over 60 airports. Then copy them into the SIDSTARS folder in the PMDG folder in your FS9 folder, overwriting the ones from Navigraph. Dan's procedures are much more detailed and include things like attention to runway specific routes. Dan has been doing this for quite a while now and I always install his last to make sure that, for the airports he covers, that I'm using his procedures.

I took a look at Dan's procedure file for KIND and sure enough it includes the 23R specific route. Unfortunately Dan does not do this for the Level-D product. This may be, in part, because whild PMDG's procedure files are simply text files, Level-D's are xml and probably more trouble to code by hand.

Thanks for the info Dave. I appreciate you looking into this.

For now I will just request direct to the transition.. or nearly as simple, track along radial and airways to get where I need to be.

Thanks very much for posting this information! I have updated the KIND AIP to include the information you provided, so future Level D and PMDG pilots will be aware of the problem, and the solution/workaround, before they get in the air!

Yeah - my cockpit management skills during the departure were completely horrible. The passengers were scared and the pilot panicked!

.xml files are simply text files as well.
