  • There are a number of policies/guidelines or just information about VATSIM which are not appropriately located in either the Code of Conduct or Code of Regulations. Many of these issues appear in the forums on a regular basis as new members ask about the issue.

    This forum contains the official VATSIM response/policy to many of those kinds of issues. While not in the CoR or CoC, these policies can be considered that -- the definitive VATSIM policy with regards to the issue in question. If/when a policy or guidance changes, the information here will be updated as necessary.

    Feel free to point a new member asking a question about one of these issues to the FAQ in question!

  • Membership Accounts


    Q. I forgot my password. How do I get it reset?

    A. Go to the Member Help page of the VATSIM website. The fourth option under "Membership Links" is "Forgotten your Password" which will take you to a page where you can reset your password.

    Q. I've changed my email address. How do I update my account?

    A. Go to the Member Help page of the VATSIM website. The third option under "Membership Links " is "Update your Email Address " which will take you to a page where you can update your account.

    Q. I have a problem with my account. Can I just create a new account?

    A. No! The Membership Department continually monitors for duplicate accounts (which are a violation of VATSIM regulations). Instead, for any problems with your account, please open a trouble ticket and the Membership Department will work to resolve your issue.

    Q. I passed a controller exam. Why haven't I been promoted yet?

    A. Controller Exams and Rating Upgrades are all processed through a divisional system (and typically by the local vARTCC/vACC/FIR). Please contact the appropriate facility staff or division staff for assistance in this area. The Membership Department does NOT process rating upgrades.

    Q. I'm under thirteen years old. Why can't I join?

    A. VATSIM is an LLC registered in the United States. The Childrens' Online Protection Privacy Act (COPPA, not to be confused with COPA) is a U.S. law that regulates online collection of information about children under 13 years of age. Due to the nature of the VATSIM network, we regret we cannot grant accounts to persons under 13 years of age.

    Q. I'm having problems with my account. How do I get help?

    A. If you are unable to resolve your issue through the account management tools on the website, please open a trouble ticket and the Membership Department will work to resolve your issue.
