  1. Norman Blackburn retires from the Board of Governors After 13 years as the Vice President of Conflict Resolution, Norman Blackburn has announced his retirement from the Board of Governors. Norman joined in the BoG in June 2007 and has been a stalwart in promoting excellence in online behaviour and ensuring that when members have been referred to the Conflict Resolution process, that they have been dealt with in a fair and timely fashion. Norman has developed many Division Conflict Resolutions Managers (DCRM) during his tenure and has been an active participant in BoG discussions and decisions since his appointment. Norman plans to continue to play an active role on the VATSIM network as time commitments allow so we expect to see his name around our virtual skies for many years to come. As an interim measure, VP Operations Mark Richards, will look after the Conflict Resolution portfolio as well to ensure a smooth transition to the new VP Conflict Resolution in due course. We are now working through the finer points for the appointment of a successor for Norman. On behalf of the Board of Governors, Founders, Executive Committee, Conflict Resolution team and all members, I would like to thank Norman for his 13 years of dedicated service to VATSIM and wish him all the best in his retirement.

  3. The VACC-Austria has extended the duration of the Weekly-Wednesday event to 3 hours: 1730-2030z Enjoy extended coverage of FULL ATC across the entire country. Take your favorite aircraft out of the hanger for a spin to our majors Vienna (LOWW) and/or the infamous Innsbruck Airport (LOWI). Alternatively enjoy a flight to our breathtaking minors: Salzburg (LOWS), Graz (LOWG), Klagenfurt (LOWK) or Linz (LOWL). Of course we are providing full CPDLC and PDC service along the way! Take a break from your busy schedule and enjoy an evening with 3 hours of guaranteed ATC-service "as real as it gets"! We are very excited to welcome you to one of our airports! 5. Whilst I'm conscious this is drifting from the topic, is there any chance of some actual examples? No VATSIM title here and never have had one apart from a brief period about 20 years ago.... I can't say I've ever felt any of my comments are not 'respected'.

  6. Correct and sorry for that, but I really felt that I had to write something, because it really makes me sad when I see people demanding things when they are not in the position to make any demands. Polite requests, factual feedback and constructive criticism are always good, but there's a point where it hurts our developers and we keep seeing high-profile developers walking away. VATSIM simply cannot afford this to happen, because the network is already walking on a thin line, resource wise. You probably know yourself how hard it is to find loyal, honest and motivated staff to get the things done that need to be done to keep the thing running. Now, back to topic and I am also very happy that there's a plan/project to move away from the FAA-format to ICAO, I appreciate the work being done on it and the complexity of coordinating and propagating the changes down to all the servers and clients.

  8. I hate to say it, but, this is yet another example of how a change in the delivery of services to the userbase was made with no prior announcement, leaving many to find out only after the fact. Changes to the datafeeds affected many third-party stat and logging websites. The shutdown of the Sydney FSD server has made staying connected difficult for many. The retirement of X-Plane clients without low sim-rate detection was at least *generally* known to be coming *eventually*, but when it finally happened to XSB 1.3, it was without any announcement leaving its users to wonder why they suddenly couldn't connect. Now, much historical data was archived and cannot be accessed. I'm appreciative of all the behind-the-scenes work that the tech team does to keep the network running -- I just wish less of it was behind-the-scenes.
