  1. Andreas is, as usual, spot on. I thought I would add one other point, though. Much like the real world, at least in the USA, though I imagine that all of the global clients are similar, controllers don't initially have any visibility into what you put into your flight plan comments. They don't know, and they don't necessarily care, at least initially. They have to consciously go looking for your flight plan comments. When you're one controller working 16 aircraft to 4 different airports, that's certainly not a given. I will go looking for such flight plan comments when, particularly

  2. Hi there devs! As you may have seen in the last tech blog post, the v1 data files will be removed on the 31st March 2021 This means that you will need to update your applications to use the new data format. As with the old datafiles, we request that you do NOT harcode the datafile URLs, and instead download the file available at https://status.vatsim.net/status.json once when your application starts and then select one of the URLs available randomly each time you make a request. Even if we currently do load balancing server-side and therefore only one URL is available, this does

  3. After 10 years with no updates, I have finally updated VAT-Spy. It now downloads the data files from the VAT-Spy Data Project web site on GitHub. It will automatically download any new files posted to that site. Here's the full change log: VAT-Spy now pulls data from new VATSIM JSON data feed Added automatic updating of the VAT-Spy application Added automatic updating of the VAT-Spy data files from the VAT-Spy Data Project on GitHub Zooming using the mouse wheel now zooms towards or away from the mouse cursor Removed broken Simroutes.com links Set data

  7. Also -- don't take it personally if you mess up and get called out. Speaking as a Tower controller, if you land on the wrong runway, then taxi across another runway without permission heading into the terminal, I'm definitely going to tell you -- and I may not have time to preface it with a lot of softening language. I'm telling you because you need to know you messed up and should try not to mess the same thing up next time -- but even if I'm a bit short, that doesn't mean I'm mad. Learn from your mistakes, try again next time, and instead of repeating them, make all new mistakes instead.

  9. This is a typical 'VATSIM-ism'. In this case, I would simply ask TWR asap if it is OK to use 25R for landing. I cannot imagine strong objections. Any - somewhat experienced - controller knows that the first few minutes after connecting are 'clean-up time'. Forcing pilots to make any last-minute changes hardly ever helps expediting this process . In my experience, almost everything is possible as long as you talk to each other. Cheers, Martijn

  10. Thanks for the link, it's now pointing to the correct URL. Also you don't have any exams because members who joined VATSIM before the release of myVATSIM don't need to take the exam.

  11. We're getting slightly off topic... however to be honest whilst some of what is in said lecture is good advice, it's also in excess of two decades old advice and automation and training has moved on... "click click, click click" and putting yourself in a postion where in addition to anything else you were doing you now have your hands full of aeroplane just to add to your task saturation is not always the best thing to do, especially in a single pilot situation. Again, my point stands which is that short of a fault, if you understand the automation properly and are ahead of the aeroplane

  12. We are pleased to announce to our VATSIM members that the Pyongyang vACC (ZKKP FIR) has opened from now on. Pyongyang vACC control was obtained by VATKOR in 2013. It took a long time to make a full judgement on internal review and related laws. In addition, we stepped up efforts to create sector files and related materials for the Pyongyang vACC. We are very pleased to inform you that we can provide you with the Pyongyang control. As soon as we are ready, we will gradually recruit the Visiting Controller for Pyongyang vACC only. I'll let you know the details of the Visiting Controller as
