  1. Following internal tech team communications, and a discussion I had with Gunnar yesterday evening, we have extended the EOL date to the 1st March, with the potential to extend to the 31st if deemed absolutely necessary. With staff in the Development Discord, there are several solutions being created by the community that will be shared by VATSIM when they are complete, to aid in the transition and to provide a quick solution for access to the feed. These changes have full approval of the Board of Governors. I, nor anyone, can or should be expected to check or know of every singl

  2. It’s good that IVAO is progressing as well on the development front. We might have had it «first», but the constant development «race» between VATSIM and IVAO is pointless, apart from putting a bit of pressure on each other to push updates to our users. 🙂 This is a built in SELCAL into the Zibo mod, which VATSIM doesn’t have yet. Good for them!

  4. At 0158Z on 2019-10-21, while controlling MIA_TWR and monitoring MIA_GND during an OTS exam, DAL1817 transmitted a read back of a clearance. The transmission began at a normal volume, consistent with the volume of all other aircraft on the frequency. Over the course of the next three seconds, his transmission became ear-piercingly loud (accompanied by audio artifacts that were not speech), which cause both me and the other controller to need to remove our headphones to avoid hearing damage. This was not just loud, this was the equivalent of someone blowing a whistle about three inc

  11. That's absolutely fascinating. Always something new. I would like to know more about the 747's inability to climb out on SIDney. It reminds me of how I can't make it to the 10K minimum on the famous PORTE3 departure out of KSFO, when I'm flying the Dash 8. It's not meant for that, but I practiced it over and over just for fun. Using my dual RMI, I can get pretty much on the money @ PORTE int., which I used to memorize like the back of my hand. Memorized all VOR freqs. which I didn't even have to look up anymore, including left turn hdgs., predicted CDI deflections, in that particular aircraf

  12. Umm, I don't know. Here's what I would have done. If you would have given the altitude, to whatever fix I didn't have, instead of of disconnecting from VATSIM, which happens enough from my screen freezes alone, while on final, I would have simply complied and descended at a fairly good rate to the alt. that you gave. Once I got to flight level, if you don't see something you like in my route, I guess you would just let me know. That's what I would have done anyways. 🤷‍♀️

  13. Now that I look at your plane, it reminds me of Squawkbox 4.0, which I liked, but I just can't get it to work anymore. If you do use squawkbox, do they have that livery for your dash8 in the american's list? That what I always wanted to see if if I could check whatever aircraft to make sure it actually showed up with the paint. The same way with me and selecting the WiderØe livery. Would it actually show up for you? What steam does, is it just goes to default, if it's a 747, or whatever, or just select another type of aircraft. That's what I've never done on this thing. Check and see what pain

  15. Who exactly are you yelling at? Eurocontrol, for publishing procedures that are challenging to fly in an aircraft type that last flew 17 years ago, and that was a special snowflake even back then? VATSIM for using official real-life procedures? People who fly normal airliners for being insufficiently compassionate about your self-inflicted problems? I don't understand what your problem is, what you want changed, and who you expect to make those changes.

  19. Sorry if it took long to reply, but I was kinda discouraged by your answer. Honestly also the fact that you thought necessary to mute me here, so it quickly wasn't a priority. I'm sorry, is there not a 'pipeline' where the sound is coming out of your application, can't you just apply a maximum volume of some sort,, you never answered that. One day I'll put myself to it and release AFVF(Audio for VATSIM Fixed), and it'll just be a binded application with a decibel limiter or something xD (joke obviously that wouldn't be legal). To me it seems like an easy fix. If it was important

  20. Nestor, unless there's been a comprehensive poll, I don't agree with your assertion that 5% of VATSIM userbase is experiencing this. 5% may be reporting it, 20% may experience it but see that it's already been reported, and 35% may experience it but have no idea where to report it. Now, of course, I just made those numbers up. But I suspect you also made up the 5% you stated unless you can point us to some data to support that. Personally, I never experienced it myself, but watched *numerous* livestreams of others who did. Much more than 5% of the streamers I watch regularly. Aft

  21. I do have to use voice when I control due to FIR policies obviously. When you say your motivation is going down. I've never experienced motivation going down from criticism on my projects, it means people care and want a fix. Meanwhile our instructors are deprived of secondary frequencies. We aren't able to properly cover all of our FIR because of unfair limitations on transmitters. The only thing harsh here is the number of decibel you are putting out. My motivation goes down when I CANNOT control because of said problem and I'm forced to log out shamefully as a chief in front of my mate

  22. You clearly never experienced it if you downplay it like this. When experienced for the first time, this issue will instantly make the user throw his headset into his screen. The volume becomes so high in a matter of a second or 2 and any headset/speakers cannot handle it and after going 10x the recommended number of dB for that device it just starts simply beeping weird screeches and producing silence. You are downplaying this issue. This can cause real hearing problems and I can think of 3 easy fix right now. Please fix this before someone gets permanent hearing damage, I think this is

  23. Have you tried my suggestion of capping the maximum volume this app can produce. At this point it has been almost a year with a huge problem that can cause permanent damage to hearing and no solution in sight. As a programmer I understand it can be hard to fix a problem when you can't reproduce it yourself, but at this point this is just ridiculous. I admit I am not on the project and have no insight, but a long time ago I provided a simple solution idea and I have just been ignored. I understand you would want to correctly fix the problem, but can you provide the reason for y

  25. Hello Marc! A pleasure that you've chosen to fly in our airspace! :) Some airports in Malaysia use Standard Radar Departures (SRD) in place of the usual SIDs. This can be associated with established local procedures published in the unit's Unit Of Instruction or the region's Manual of Air Traffic Services. Personally, I love it as it offers controllers greater flexibility in terms of handling departures. The heading assignment and the initial climb altitude will usually be given together with the ATC clearance prior to push and/or start. As for the naming convention, Andreas is correct

  27. I said "it seems" because Im 99% sure I disabled it, and im 99% that I heard the issue once. But since that day it hasn't happened once. It actually might have worked. Sorry I don't have time to control a lot these days. I wouldnt take it as My headset cost me 12$ on amazon so the volume isn't high, and I do have some tiny hearing problem, I need to listen to everything at high volume, nothing serious. I also don't have the 'boost' option somehow on my audio card.

  28. I appreciate your help I was just explaining my situation. Unfortunately my headset is also already at maximum volume. I don't know why but it seems I still had the problem after disabling the effect

  29. I have been reading this topic from the beginning and have tried all the suggestions so far, and the only one that worked was Disable realistic ATC audio effects. Since I like to keep the effects I get around it by placing the earphones of the headset just over my ears that still allows me to hear and when the volume suddenly rises, it's more manageable. Have had this issue countless times over the last few months while flying under ATC control all over this virtual world. Let's hope the people who set up the audio system can have another look and identify a solution.

  30. Is it possible to add a quick fix that would limit the maximum volume over all (like someone mentioned). Im talking about about going around the problem until we can fix the problem and before someone gets ear damage? (I LITERALLY have hearing problem and it is STILL VERY painful to my ears, I can't imagine a normal person) All fixes didn't work for me (disabling VHF simulation doesn't fix it, and decreasing volume is not possible because for me it DOES decrease volume and then I cannot hear the pilots) Thank you,
    1 point
  31. because I can't increase AFV's volume Realistic VHF simulation is a must and I can't wait to use it again. thanks for your work and good luck
    1 point
  32. @Nestor Perez I also want to keep the realistic VHF effect, but it seems to be an easier fix. Anyway AFV was at +72 in its settings, and 100% in windows mixer, and my main volume is also 100%, so I cannot increase it's volume at all. I would like to test your -72 solution for you but it's not practical for me. I have read people say the volume between 0 and -72 is the same and this might be an clue? Maybe somewhere in the VHF effect code there's a reference to the volume settings and the problem might be near that? Im only speculating/brainstorming. Good luck.

  33. I did another post for it, sorry for the duplicate. It is not a pilot problem IMO, because in my research, I found that if somebody listen to the frequency at the same time, they would not hear the problem while I hear it, So IMO it is a client problem on the computer of the person that hears the problem. Thank you

  35. Hello This problem DID NOT happen at first, it came with one of the updates. What happens is that 1/10 of communication are unreadable. What happen during THOSE is that the audio message starts at 0% volume and increase with time. after 1-3 seconds its at 100% but keeps coming up. After that it continues going up and up and up. Its dangerous for my ears and unreadable, and at some point, the volume is SO HIGH, that the codec just sends silence. Basically the communication is ONLY readable from second 2 to 4, anything before or after is too weak or too loud. So people will read back I

  36. I have just tried setting output volume to 0 and that hasn't cured the problem. Just heard it while listening to EGKK_GND at 1222Z 8 May, transmission by EGKK_GND to a KLM callsign. Just heard it again as I type this at 1224Z, VIR27X calling for clearance triggered it about 5 seconds into his transmission. I'll try disabling realistic ATC audio effects and see if that makes a difference.

  37. I passed on the -72 volume suggestion to flightdeck2sim (YouTube streamer) who was getting them frequently. He tried -72 and wasn’t getting the ‘audio bombs’ but we did notice the audio was quite varied in volume per person. Some were very quiet (which would make sense as per the name of the control) but some were quite loud. I’m not sure if this was related to the setting or would have happened regardless. But yes, it’s definitely caused by the realistic effects. Disabling this effect eliminated the bug. I thought it might have been a radio propagation effect w

  38. Is there something we can do to help? I've been watching flighdeck2sim's streams (youtuber) and he gets at least 10 per stream over a few hours. He's using xplane, xpilot, windows 10. He generates a lot of traffic and ATC around him - something to do with that? He turned off the realistic effects for a while and didn't get any issues. So presumably it's the realistic effects. If we provide UTC times and call sign this happened to if that useful? I'm guessing you couldn't do a lot of troubleshooting of the server logs if the effects are made by the client? Are there client logs gener

  39. Interestingly enough this might not be needed; for me I didn't notice a difference in volume at all from 0 to -72. Perhaps it has something to do with the issue?

  40. Hello, Several times I hear noises on the Vatsim new voice server. So I cant understand the speach during the noise. When the ATC or pilot stop talking the voice gone. This situation is random and not all the time, Sometimes with noise sometims not. Thank you

  41. Have had this issue since the last time the did some updates on the voice server. Not often but while connected to an active ATC frequency. My ATC client is vPilot but I don't believe it is the cause of the problem.

  42. That makes me wonder whether it's a sort of recursive feedback loop, wherein any value above 0 continually amplifies it. Would I be wrong in my impression that two aircraft keying up simultaneously seems to trigger it? If any of this is useful, would someone connect these thoughts with the dev team? I'm not on that Discord anymore.

  43. Sorry for the necropost - is there any known solution? this also happens to me on AFV standalone, latest version while controlling. It's very, very loud and I have to take off my headset to not burst my eardrums (really - it's loud even with the headset off)

  44. Gary, Could Mark identify the cause for the sudden volume increase? I did some flights in the past couple of days after being occupied with real life for the past weeks and did still experience it on every single flight. More information about my configuration: https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?p=538269#p538269 Thanks and best, Christoph

  45. I experience the same issue, but on vPilot. Volume returns to normal as soon as there is a break in transmission (frequency goes quiet). I've noticed that it will also sustain at the very high volume if transmissions happen in quick succession. Only once the frequency has two seconds without transition, the volume will return to normal. I have not yet identified a cause for this, appears to be random ... Win 10, profession, P3D V4 and latest vPilot.
