  1. Disclaimer: This is a sporadic PSA from my own experiences as a beginner, controller and supervisor on VATSIM. These are my own personal opinions, and does in no way reflect VATSIM's official stance on the issue. Writing this because I don't want to get in trouble, k thanks. -- We have all been there, some just don't want to realize it. No matter who you are, how many hours you have or what the first three digits of your CID reads, we have all been through that palm-sweating frustration of not daring to press the PTT to ask for a clearance. Who hasn't felt the desperation when y

  2. Hello everyone! This is my first post on these forums - and first post of, hopefully, more to come in 2021. As someone with over 1,700 hours on Vatsim, I figure I might as well throw a quick message up. First and foremost - I'd like to thank those involved in the upkeep and conduct of this network - you all are doing a fantastic job and, as someone who was absolutely terrified at the prospect of using it initially, I have had almost no issues with anyone here. As a blind pilot - someone who is unable to taxi to a runway - I'd also like to take this time to thank all of the controllers

  3. I think where I'm getting to is that if a specific aircraft is in a place outside of the VA's schedules, that's entirely the pilot's issue, not the virtual airline's. Cheers! Luke

  4. Depends what the focus field is. If you’re trying to get your c172 into an overloaded class B airspace, not likely gonna happen. Most likely you’ll be told VFR isn’t being accepted at the focus field and asked to remain clear of the airspace. On the other hand there’s plenty of events that encourage or promote VFR flying and those are often underrated on the network considering how much fun they are.

  5. This sounds like typical behavior for a flight management system under most circumstances. Take my example about already having passed the initial fix on a procedure, but ATC has to change your STAR. In order to load it, you'll likely have to pick some fix on the new procedure that's already behind you in order to load up the whole procedure and select the correct one that is (hopefully) in front of you. Now, most FMS's won't execute a new path until you tell it to, but it sounds like the one you're dealing with will. In that case, all you should have to do is sync your heading bug to your pre

  6. VATSIM New Year Message As another year draws to a close, we reflect on what has been an extraordinary and unusual year for all of us, wherever in the world we reside. First and foremost, we hope you and your families are safe and well. For our community, 2020 was busy. We clocked over 6.2 million flying hours and 630,000 controlling hours in the last 12 months. And in the summer, VATSIM hit 100,000 active members. In August, we saw the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator, with VATSIM compatibility from day one. We also re-launched the pilot rating system

  7. I stopped flying events a few years ago because of the unrealistic congestion. I now look at the vatusa calendar and fly as far away from the events as possible.
