  1. Just because you may not have participated in or experienced discrimination or the lack of inclusivity that certain members of this network have experienced, does not mean it does not exist. This thread is not political, it's about trying to educate people on the LGBTQ+ community and how to show respect towards those members. A lot of complex issues are brought up and being discussed in this thread. We as members don't have control over policies such as required documents for changing your name. That being said, we do have control over our actions and how we treat each other. This
  2. I used an old freeware scenery for FS9, so it probably wouldn't work for FSX. With that said, the FS9 scenery is quite good for being freeware. JM
  3. Thanks, Ross... I'll keep looking into the graphics card to try and pinpoint the issue. I'll post if I come across a solution. JM
  4. I was having another issue with VRC, VAT-Spy, and vSTARS where random lines were appearing and jumping around. I updated my video card drivers because of that, and it fixed the issue; however, this map issue still exists. Any other thoughts, or would you say it's definitely a graphic card issue? JM
  5. Hey guys, So I've been having a problem with being unable to load certain maps in vSTARS unless other unrelated maps are selected. At other times, one map being open will show what it's supposed to, but when I open a totally unrelated map items from the first map disappear. Any thoughts? JM
  6. I think we should try to keep this post on topic and avoid correcting controllers & pilots alike... instead just enjoy the funny situations that are posted. Shouldn't be too hard... JM
  7. There have definitely been some funny things over the years... This first one was not me, but one of my fellow controllers when I first started at ZDC: The rest are me: After a pilot landed long on runway 33L at BWI... JM

  9. And it begins... Congratulations, Andrew! Not a better man for the job! JM
  10. I got your first e-mail but haven't heard back since. I guess it wasn't that important? JM
  11. For the record, I'm not on the BoG. I have no official capacity in VATSIM management whatsoever. Also, I was careful not to say anything in my comment that would indicate agreement or disagreement with your comments. All I said is "where do you find the time?" The only conclusion you could accurately jump to from that is that I am surprised at how much time and effort you are giving to something like this. The content, phrasing, and tone of your posts makes it sound like you are commenting on political corruption in a national government system, not the management of a flight sim hobbyist
  12. Bo, While I see your point, and I understand it can be frustrating to all the members who are currently without an ATM at ZAU, what you need to understand is, in order for the right decision to be made, the BoG may need time to review. Don't get me wrong... I know you all are anxious and excited to find out who the new ATM is, but you have a DATM and VATUSA8 who are working together as ATM right now. Those capable individuals should be working well together to help ZAU continue on. What's frustrating is, no matter what, the BoG and VATUSA staff members are just going to look like a bunch o
  13. If you don't have the patience to wait for the right decision, what's the point of even applying? I want to know why it is so important to you that a fast decision is made, when VATUSA and the BoG are clearly trying to do all in their mind to make the best decision for the state of the ARTCC. There are details that you and me don't know, and it's not our place to. Why try and rush the people with the already difficult jobs in making their decision? If you're that impatient, I recommend e-mailing VATUSA1 directly rather than creating a forum post if you're that concerned about it. And do yo
  14. I agree, but I can also see the reason why you'd want to go for the afternoon event. A lot of times Saturday evenings are family nights. I personally end up taking my parents or grandmother out to dinner on Saturday evenings, so it's a nice change to have something in the afternoon. While I personally prefer early evening events, I'm not going to complain about a mix up in times a bit. Also, according to my records the ZHU event is occurring in the evening (early evening, but still evening). I guess I see your point, but to a certain degree... JM
  15. It's Saturday... afternoon events are a nice change. Not to mention you said events as in multiple events, yet this is the only late afternoon event I've seen in a while. JM
  16. Now I'm starting to get tired of this. All I have seen from you, Scott, is an unacceptable attitude towards an extremely hard worker because of your personal feelings. All you are doing is acting like a 12 year old and calling VATUSA1 out... and why? Because you don't like him? Have you seen what he's been doing behind the scenes? No. You have a "vendetta" of some sort against him, and that's something YOU need to work out on your own time. At first I thought you really got into the issues, but now I just realize you are trying to find any and every way to put down our Division Director. I
  17. This is very interesting, Michael! I wish you the best of luck and I'll certainly be staying tuned. Justin
  18. Congratulations to Mr. Callan, ZDC's newest SHD (IAD) certified TRACON controller!!
  19. The OTS is currently going on... come fly and make Ed work for his new cert!!!
  20. On Saturday, December 27th, at 1 pm EST, Mr. ED CALLAN will attempt to certify on Potomac Approach, SHD Area (IAD_APP). Come give him the hardest time of your life. Throw VFR, military, and all those in between. Make him work for the rating, and don't let him walk away without having broken a sweat. The OTS will most likely last 1-2 hours. It will start between 12:30 - 1 pm EST and will take place during UVA's Holidays event at ORD. Any and all questions should be directed to Justin Martin at [email protected] Give 'em hell!! Justin
  21. A few months ago, Jared Shure and I did a little experiment. In this experiment we took a controller, myself, and Jared. Jared got in a plane and switched to one of our controllers frequencies... we had that controller log off while I was controlling using my frequency and his. When he left, Jared was able to hear me and I was able to hear him for about 10 seconds and then the channel disconnected. We were told that this was a pilot client issue and it was on the "to-do" list for a later date. JM
  22. Here's my view... Yes, multiple frequencies should be able to be used, but only in cases you REALLY need them. I.E. I'm on IAD_APP (Potomac Approach - SHD Area) and DCA_APP (Potomac Approach - MTV Area) is on. If DCA_APP signs off and he has a lot of traffic on his frequency, I should be able to set his frequency to be primary as well and work the two frequencies. If another signs off, I feel it would be necessary. Once all the traffic has cleared from one sector, close the frequency. Soon enough you will (should) be back to your original. You can do the call signs on the ATC Voice Ch
