  1. Maybe I missed something... but what exactly is VF&R and how is it different from VFR?
  2. I would also like to congratulate Deon Mathews on his appointment as Deputy Director. He will be reporting directly to the Director. Deon is a well known voice on teamspeak and on the ATC channels, and he is doing a lot of good work for the division. He has a whole bunch of positive energy and excellent ideas. Please join me in welcoming Deon in this important position at Vatsaf! Jacques Malan
  3. I would like to congratulate David van der Byl on his appointment as VATSAF Director. I feel very comfortable to hand over the reigns to him, and I am certain that he will continue to make VATSAF one of the best divisions in VATSIM. David has been with Vatsim for more than 7 years and he is rated as a senior instructor. He also created the current vatsaf website, with supporting tools. He has done a lot of work for the division at live events and with event planning, training and general [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance. We wish him all the best for the future! Jacques Malan
  4. Hi Mark, What flights are not showing up where? If you filed a flight plan, and completed the flight (landed and parked at destination), then the information should be available on online indicators such as Vataware. Jacques
  5. Dear VATSAF Members, I hereby wish to announce my resignation as Vatsaf Director. Due to real world commitments and increasing workload, it has become more and more difficult for me to dedicate the time and effort to Vatsaf that it deserves, and I am sure that there will be someone out there who will be better suited to drive the division to the heights that I know it can go. I would like to thank everybody you for the confidence placed in me over the past year. Kindest regards, Jacques Malan PS. Watch these forums for announcements!
  6. That message normally comes up when the selected server is overloaded. XSquawkbox probably just does not have an appropriate error message for the situation.
  7. Please join me in welcoming Deon Mathews as VATSAF Membership Manager. Deon will take over the responsibilities of membership manager with immediate effect. We wish him the best of luck.
  8. Ben, There is a fine line between keeping it as real as possible, and having fun. If a visitor to your airport does not have the correct, up to date charts, and he mistakingly parks or spawns at an inappropriate gate, it is your job as controller to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]it him and make him feel at home. We will not alienate the little traffic that we do get in South Africa with an attitude like this. Accept it! This is Not negotiable!
  9. To ensure the successful and continued growth of the division, Vatsaf will be appointing nine Flight Information Region (FIR) Managers. As a division we are responsible for air traffic services in South Africa as well as all the neighbouring countries. These include: - Namiba - Botswana - Zimbabwe - Malawi - Mozambique - Madagascar - Mauritius - Johannesburg - Cape Town Repsonsibilities: Report directly to the Division Director Promote their FIR within Vatsaf and the whole Vatsim community Arrange and co-ordinate events in their FIR Publish newsworthy items in conjunction w
  10. We require a Membership Manager to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume all duties in the Membership department within VATSAF. Duties: • Welcome new members to the division. • Make sure member information is kept up to date in the database • [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist the division in expanding the membership. • Submit monthly reports to the division director • [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist with Conflict Resolution within the division Requirements: • Must be 18 years of age or more and preferably possess a minimum of 12 months VATSIM membership • A member in good standing within VATSAF and VATSI
  11. Welcome back Ben! I'm very happy to see that you are trying to help our pilots to get connected and tuned to the correct frequency. Unlike the real world, we are in the fortunate position to be able to help people using text. The Vatsim Pilot Resource Centre (PRC) encourages new members to ask their local ATC for [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance. This is the first point of contact with the Vatsim network, and it is part of our job description as controllers to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist members with any problem they may have. The more we help our pilots to understand the finer details
  12. Watch this space... For now the long term plan is to do 'Cross Africa every 6 months.
