  1. Hello Marc, Allow me to recommend that you write your message in English. This may allow more members to understand the challenge you are facing and provide suitable support. While VATSIM has members from all over the world, also from French speaking countries, most communication is carried out in English, and generally sees better results when assistance is sought.
  2. I would like to take this opportunity and thank Norman Blackburn for his service to the VATSIM network as Vice President of Conflict Resolution. Norman, your contributions have been immeasurable and am grateful for to have had the opportunity to work with you, and also for your department. Every time I asked for your help, your advice or a second opinion on a matter, you were always there and happy to help. After 13 years of service as VPCRM, you have earned your retirement many times over. I wish you all the best. Your successor has big shoes to fill! Thank you, sir!

  4. I think the VATSIM authorized (pilot) training organizations, while all taking a slightly different approach to teaching and examining their students, all do an outstanding job and deserve a huge thank you for their efforts. They do not hand out medals, you get a pilot rating as a certificate of your VATSIM piloting knowledge once a part of the curriculum has been completed and the exam(s) p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed. Lets all remember that some members join VATSIM at an age as young as 13 years and may be exposed to the operation of a (virtual) airplane for the first time in their lives. Same may apply to members aged 30, or 50 or 80. And they very much appreciate the help. Please note that some people get more enjoyment if they have an additional reason to fly a flight, than just to fly the flight. This may be to fly for a VA, fly on FSEconomy, and some members opt to challenge themselves to a VATSIM pilot rating checkride. We are all in this for entertainment, fun and learning. Our real world members use VATSIM to keep their skills sharp, both on the controller side and on the pilot side and we can learn from them. VATSIM is restructuring the pilot rating system.
  5. Now that you are back into staff work, I need to find a way to talk you into getting involved in Membership again. Congratulations, DG!
  6. Hello. If you are flying on VATSIM, the following applies: For IFR flight, you are required to file a flight plan, irrespective if controllers are covering the airspace you are operating in or not. For VFR flight, it is optional, but recommended. I hope this helps.
  7. I am not sure I understand what you are asking. Are you referring to using the pre-file option to file a flight plan with VATSIM, but you then decide to fly offline?
  8. Congratulations on your appointment to VATEUR Region Director, Simon! Best of luck in your new role! Thank you Apostolos for your years of service as VATEUR Region Director and your continued contributions to VATSIM! Merry Christmas, everyone!
  9. Hello. The Transfer and Visiting Controller Policy states the following: A Transfer Controller is required to first consolidate their current rating by satisfactorily performing online for at least 50 hours at their current rating, and in the Division where the rating was granted. A rating not consolidated may not be transferred. You need to have logged 50 hours as a controller at your current controller rating before you can request a Region transfer. At this time you have controlled a total 8 hours and 21 minutes at your current controller rating.

  11. Hello Dominique. Please visit https://www.vatsim.net/members/member-help. There you will find all account related tools for members. On the lower left side you will also find the Change Region option. I hope this helps.
  12. Thiago, I would [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume that no slots are available anymore. Usually they are all taken within minutes, if not seconds, after bookings open.
  13. Thank you Florian and Morten for your work. Keeping such a large Division running well I am sure is a challenge.
  14. Apos, this really came to me as a big surprise. I did not see this coming at all. Thank you for the time and energy you have given to the VATEUR Region as its Director.
  15. A little off topic, but I always get a chuckle out of the term penalty box on airport diagrams.

  18. VATSIM likes to see the members who are connecting as pilots or controllers actively participate. It is absolutely fine to take a short break while on a longer flight to get a snack and a drink, use the restroom or for any other reason really. I would recommend taking breaks while flying in uncontrolled airspace. If you need one while flying in controlled airspace, ask ATC if you may step away. Usually they have no problem with that. Please do not however take extended breaks while flying under ATC. Extended flights may be checked by Supervisors and Administrators. Repeated unattended connections may result in disciplinary action being taken against a member, and that is really not worth it. It is good that you have reviewed the CoC in this regard. Please note that in addition to CoC section A9, other sections also apply. Sections A14 and B3 come to my mind. As long as you are at or in the vicinity of your computer during the majority of the flight, everything should be fine. If you are not able to conduct a long haul flight, opt for a shorter one, or disconnect for the period you are unable to remain at or near the computer.
  19. I understand your request and it falls within the responsibilities to be worked on by the Membership Department. I am certain that the general membership is able to guide you in the right direction regarding your question, but in the end you will most likely be asked to contact the Membership Department. I am asking you, as you are already in contact with a Membership Department representative, to continue working with him in this matter.
