  1. Any experiences so far? I have already googled this and read every topic possible and did see the limited FSX benchmarks, but I'd love to hear it here from a fellow member. I have a Q6600 overclocking at 3.6 Ghz right now and I don't know if it's worth switching to i920 and overclock it to 4.0 Ghz (I have thermalright ultra). Thanks, Matt.
  2. Who said anything about 2 graphics cards sir? 4870x2 is a dual GPU card, it's pretty much like a core 2 duo except its 2 chips on 1 card not 2 cores in 1 chip. I think you confused it with SLI. I didn't know I couldn't post questions like these here, and thanks for your nice remark about bestbuy though, just what i was looking for
  3. I personally don't think it's worth the upgrade. The 8800GTX and the 4870 are pretty much in the same legion. Yes SLi will help, but it wont give you 2x improvement. Worth 400$? You be the judge The problem is, before my card is worth nothing, i want to upgrade. I still can't believe 2 GB of video ram and a blasting 750 Mhz GPU core and 3.6 Ghz memory speed won't make a difference. I just don't know what to do anymore. I have a Q6600 that i OC to 3.6 Ghz (i think that's pretty much the fastest CPU you can get), i have Raptor X 150 GB on RAID 0, I have 4 GB of RAM OC 1033 Mhz, 5-5-5-15, a
  4. Ever since I downloaded the program, at random intervals, i always get disconnected. It used to be okay when I was working minor airpots, but with LAX now it's very painful as you have to connect the ATIS back, and check the comms. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Matt.
  5. I have a 8800 GTX and I am now seeing that this new ATI 4870x2 is a beast and planning on buying one (after years of nvidia). However i have seen how the performance is bad (my card is better than the newest cards in fsx) due to drivers and wanted to ask if anyone has any experience. I run the game on 1920 x 1200 x 32, full AA/AF, full settings. Thanks, Matt.
  6. Aaron : If I wanted to discourage people, I'd have written 1/3 of what I wrote and wouldn't even bother with asking for help. I have on several occasions seen during VC usage switching between views memory usage jumps from 1.2 GB to 1.85-1.9 GB range. I have no other addon other than FSInn which I have been using since feb 08. Also not sure you know this but (I don't know if GTS will have the same effect) turning on AA and AF in NVIDIA CP to 16X and enabling hardware sampling makes a great big difference (that's the way I play any game). This weekend I will actually sit down and write
  7. PMDG 747X for FSX.... My machine specs: Q6600 @ 3.6 Ghz 4 GB DDR2 1066 Mhz RAM (Windows XP 32 bit but I have 3 GB switch on) 8800 GTX 621/1011 150 GB Raptor X RAID0 FSX Config: All maximum settings except traffic (only airport/road/ferries max), autogen is sp[Mod - Happy Thoughts], 1920 x 1200 x 32, full AA, full AF. Now, here is the question. Is it even possible, with the above configuration to have a full flight which involves taxing from a gate to the runway, taking off, flight that takes say minimum of 1-2 hours, landing, taxing back without --->getting the famous
  8. Well, I'm very very confused and pulling my hair out. I don't know what to do. I'll try to be short and to the point. I want to upgrade my monitor(s). I just bought the TRACK IR 4 PRO and I want to have a dual monitor set up. Currently I have: a) Samsung 20.1" LCD 1600 x 1200 (1.5 years old). b) Samsung 24" LCD 1920 x 1200 (8 months old). My options: a) Sell 20.1" LCD, buy (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001234) which is what I have right now for 24". b) Sell 20.1" LCD, buy (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001263) which is th
  9. I have Q6600 and it's very worth for FSX. There are 2 games that uses quad core fully as far as I know and one of them is FSX the other one is supreme commander. FSX uses all 4 cores up to 100% during most of my flights. Expect a lot of FPS increase especially VC. Thanks, Matt.
  10. I disagree completely. I do all those things (except DirectX), and don't have trouble. The only scenario in which I need to work around Vista's security is when I'm working on an ASP.NET site on my local IIS installation. Only administrators (which in Vista means elevated) can debug processes hosted in another user account so I need to elevate Visual Studio to do that. Note that this was the same in XP, if you run XP as a limited user, which I did for years. I did that (and still do, even in Vista) because I believe that developers should always run with as few privileges possible so they
  11. Really? I've been running Vista since it was in beta and I'm a programmer, and I never experienced any difficulties. Matt, you have yet to confirm whether you have FSX SP2 installed. I suspect you have, but it would help if we know for sure. Cutting down on anti-aliasing might help too. On my system (which is not nearly as fast as yours) I've got it set at 2x, recently reduced it from 4x. While 4x looks much better, the difference in framerates was huge, especially with the PMDG (all other aircraft were fine with 4x, but the PMDG virtual cockpit just kills my performance). 16x seems a
  12. I have played FPS games for more than 10 years and I can pick the difference between 30 fps and 100 fps from a mile away. Please DO consider the fact that running game at 1920 x 1200 x 32 with 16xQ AA and 16x AF does make a huge difference. I would go into detail and write paragraphs about how anti aliasing work and how rendering loop changes based on over a hundred different settings, but we don't want this to become a debate:) I made this post simply to ask around to see IF by any chance someone having a SLI or dual CPU system to post their comments or any other feedback about FSX display.
  13. Bill, I appreciate your comments. I will try your advice and as a matter of a fact I will get a copy of a VISTA 64 bit (now XP SP2) and try FSX with it. Some points: 1 ) My machine has just been formatted recently and at no time I have over 20 processes. 2 ) I tried playing FSX with antivirus off and same thing happens, and no its not just a VATSIM thing. If I create similar AI traffic and fly in JFK, I have the same problem. 3 I have multiplayer range in FSInn at 30 miles and aircraft count at 20. 4) I do not use FSInn weather due to weather bug. 5 ) I have no other plugins ins
  14. I have had it. For the past a few months, I have been keeping this to myself, but I want to speak up now. The game in question is FSX. The system I have is as follows: CPU: Q6600 G0 Stepping 3.6 Ghz - 50% overclock. Memory : 4 x 1024 MB Crucial Ballistix 5-5-5-15 2.2V 1066MHZ. Video Card: 8800 GTX 621/1013/2026 15% overclock. Hard disk: 2 x 150 GB RAPTOR X (RAID 0) + 2 x 500 GB SATA 3 GB/S (RAID 0) + 1 x 320 GB SATA 3 GB/S. Sound Card: SB Audigy 2. Monitor : 24" Samsung LCD 1920 x 1200 + 21" Samsung LCD 1600 x 1200. Controllers : Saitek Yoke + Throttle + Pedals PSU : 850W PC Power +
