If you're declaring an emergency while in communication with ATC and have already been radar identified, there really is no need to squawk 7700. The controller already knows who and where you are and will effect coordination with other facilities as needed. That code was designed to facilitate expeditious identification of an aircraft in distress when they call out of nowhere. I've had a handful of pilots declare (or ask if they can declare) an emergency and I'll accommodate if I can, which is most of the time.

    ^ this.

Please don't squawk the code if you're in contact with a controller. It's incredibly annoying to everyone else. We know you have an issue, no need to do an extra step.

  2. Wouldn't it be advisable to simply post a message on the registration page that all slots are booked so we don't get numerous threads asking why they can't book a flight? Right now you can try running a search, but without knowing any better, it appears that the search doesn't work because you get no feedback.

Not a bad idea, I'll bring it up to the web guys.

  3. Hello! I need some help figuring out my Equipment Code (I am using XSquawkBox):

    CIV-A INS

    VOR NAV

    no ILS unless necessary

IF YOU ARE LOOKING UP WHAT A CIV-A IS DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS ONLY IF YOU HAVE USED CIVA AND NEVER HAVE ISSUES WITH CONTROLLERS WITH CERTAIN CODE

I was going to help you, but I was going to have to look up CIV-A so now I'm not.

  4. It's all well and good opening up another two airports but you have to consider the following:

Additional NAT capacity - There's already more traffic there than is comfortable to handle.

Additional Staffing Required - Do we have the resources to open up 2 more airports? You'd need:

    2 x Delivery Controllers (possibly)

2 x Ground Controllers (possibly more depending on the complexity of the ground operation!)

2 x Tower Controllers (possibly more if they operate split runway ops)

2 x Approach Controllers (probably more as they'll be on split sectors/runway ops)

    2 x Terminal Controllers (possibly)

    2 x NAT Controllers

    N x NAT [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istants

And then multiply that by X to cover the timescale of the event...

This right here is pretty much the reasons we limit the slots.

Besides, most people fly without a slot so *shrug*
