  1. I believe there are/were a few NetJets VA's and maybe a Flight Options VA out there. Thise would represent the model that you are looking for. Not sure if they're still up and running, but you can search and see.
  2. I think you have some good theories above here, especially the habit picked up from offline built in sim ATC. It does make it extra special and fun to follow it up with "I have your clearance with full route amendment" though
  3. Interestingly, based in part on this post and others like it that I've seen, I make that effort when controlling. The other night I had a 744 spawn up on the GA ramp of the primary field I control. I PM'd the pilot, and very politely said that if he valued the realism aspect, that the GA ramp nor the taxiways leading out of the GA ramp could support a 744, but I'd be happy to work him anyway. Said pilot promptly disconnected not to return. Oh well.
  4. I have disagreements about the changes to B5 (Unicom), however that would be debating the CoC as opposed to asking questions. I do have a question regarding C7 (Simultaneous Connections) though. Has there been consideration to allow a greater number of connections so that a terminal or enroute controller can facilitate more than one ATIS? Additionally, and not a priority, so that a controller can prime up additional frequencies. Thank you.
  5. How do you propose gathering this data Ross? Is it a matter of someone comparing sim Wx with sim radar depiction against a concurrent real world visual and real world nexrad source? I'm afraid in northern California, our thunderstorm season is thinning out. If you are serious though and seriously interested in putting the work into this, then perhaps we put out a call for testers gathering the data you need. The community is generally quite responsive to this, and as you can see, this thread alone has gandered significant interest. How can we help? Nick

  7. Just out of curiosity Ross, because I have no idea. Is it that hard to add weather to the clients? Is it hours of code, or something relatively simple to do? If it's not terribly time consuming, then why not? It wouldn't be harmful. If it is, then I can certainly respect the delima.
  8. As me, a vSTARS terminal guy softly cries in the corner
  9. And you, as the author, have the final discretion on inclusion of weather into the clients. I understand your point of view, but also understand the other points of view in favor of. My example was quite localized to the terminal if not the local environment. As one gets more into the latter terminal and enroute environments, I believe whatever ambiguity between clients becomes more acceptable. I have, and continue to appreciate your willingness to be open minded on this topic. Through a good discussion and many convincing arguements, it still doesn't appear we are there yet in your view.
  10. I'm not a real world controller, so I definitely appreciate the insight from those on here. Recently I was on a SWA flight returning home. My home field has parallel north/south runways. Arrivals that day were south. Flow dictates that aircraft ariving from the south will fly west of the field for right traffic per say and land south. On this particular day, there were thunderstorms in the area. Being a RL pilot in the area, I know what I am seeing out the window quite well so I was intrigued to see us flying well east of the field. The cause of this was a heavy cell sitting just west
  11. Not sure what one has to do with the other, but do you have a source for that info?
  12. So the issue of weather, deviations, etc. and ATC's role have popped back up in a few forums/chats recently. Just wondering if implementation of weather has been given any more thought over the last year and a half, or if this topic and thought is dead.
  13. Disconnect Autopilot. Fly a 20-30 degree intercept angle at or above the charted altitude, or as vectored. Begin turn to final when needles begin to align, maintain needle alignment horizontally and vertically in the center of the PFD. Establish final approach speed. If the horizontal needle moves down, pitch down or reduce power. If it moves up, then pitch up or increase power. If it moves right, slightly bank or yaw right, if it goes to the left, then go left. Repeat inputs consistently until reaching the round-out and flare. Pretend you are the pilot and not the aircraft's computer.
  14. This ^^^^. Hopefully that is the end of the discussion for the US side of things.
  15. Jason, Sadly, I don't believe anyone has cracked the mystery of updating the default GPS to reflect current airspaces. That said, you have a few options. http://www.aero.sors.fr/index.html will allow you to update the default waypoints inherent in FSX. The waypoint/fix updates here basically create scenery files which FSX will read and incorporate once added so while the new Bravo airspace may not be accurately reflected, you should at least have the waypoints. Other options include buying a third party GPS. There are a few choices from a few different vendors. Do some research, as t
  16. I think it's a mix. By and large you'll be fine with default airports, but realize that the airports are modeled circa 2006 so many things have also changed. The changes that will affect you on the network are runway number changes, runway additions and/or subtractions, and taxiway changes. If you find that commercial addons are not feasible because of the VAS issue, then perhaps find an updated freeware AFCAD file for the particular airport that will hopefully provide an updated, yet system friendly update.
  17. Thank you for sharing these. I am looking forward to this. I'm particularly excited about the open frequency range. It may be a small learning curve for all to start using the published CTAF's, but it brings forth a new era in realism and accuracy.
  18. I'll generally private message a pilot under those circomestances when their not in a critical phase of flight. It gets mixed responses to be honest, but it's generally a favorable conversation. I think I just initiate the conversation with the hope that they'll learn something or leave with something to reference for their next time out. Just had an easy one last night. VFR pilot Nxxxx, destination is reporting IMC, VFR flight not recommended, say intentions. VFR pilot opted to continue VFR into IMC conditions. What can you do. Not necessarily an airspace bust, although I see those oft
  19. A Mooney M20T - "Mooney Nxxxx at the GA ramp requesting pushback" Has to be challenging to use a towbar and hold a VHF handheld I imagine.
  20. Nice write up RP! Hopefully we get some enthusiastic GA'ers out there taking advantage. Here is a youtube I watched the other day. The NE to SW flyway before it was officially the flyway.
  21. Oh so many jokes, so little time Study up, start with something basic. Just take a Cessna around the pattern a few times, or a short cross country. Nothing too complex. Even go VFR. Find an airspace that is staffed, but is not too busy. The controller should be willing to help you out at that point. Build up as you get more comfortable. Everybody remembers their first
  22. As far as weather overlays go, it was discussed in a pretty lengthy thread just shy of two years ago. It even looked like it may grow some legs, but the conversation stalled out. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=72052&hilit=weather+radar
