Michael Pike Posted January 10, 2010 at 02:11 PM Posted January 10, 2010 at 02:11 PM There are two pro modes for ground, one with mode-S radar and the other without any radar - just simulating the view from the tower. In the non radar mode you will not see any call signs regardless of squawk mode. In mode-S radar mode, you will see callsigns if the flight plan includes any of those letters in the "equipment code". In FSInn, the value under "Aircraft" in the flight plan is picked up automatically from FS but the pilot can edit it manually - eg "T/BE58/F" for the default Beech Baron. This example has "F" as the equipment code which is in your list for [Mod - Happy Thoughts]umed mode-S, therefore the callsign is displayed. If there is nothing after the slash, or a different letter such as "A" then you will not see the callsign because the aircraft is [Mod - Happy Thoughts]umed to be not equipped with mode-S. That was the only part where I think you were off a bit: If the aircraft on the ground is part of an airline (for example, DAL1234 is part of Delta), you will see "DAL" as the callsign. If the aircraft is not affiliated with an airline (for example, N12345 for a US-registered plane), in the callsign you just see ??? (yes, just the three question marks). It certainly makes things very interesting! It also makes you rely alot more on the STS (status) column of the Departure list. When you look out from the control tower you can see the airline from paintings and the AC type. But never the callsign. That is what I wanted to simulate. Gergely.
