EDIT: This topic has morphed. It was titled Cudos to ZOB.

I'm trying to get a "Quick Link" list of Preferred Runways when ATC is not online. Some links are harder to find than others. This is what I have so far. If there are others out there that I'm missing please reply with a link. Thank you.

no such thing as "normal ops" when there is no ATC hence "uncontrolled airport"

should be noted what ZNY and ZOB do on their sites is just "recommend" what runway to use. does not make it mandatory

ZDC has a runway selector, as well.

That's not strictly speaking true, even in real life uncontrolled airports have preferential runways and runways 'in use'. Where the local airport managment creates certain rules for runway use that are published in the A/FD.

On VATSIM no one can enforce it but that doesn't mean it can't be there just because you aren't interested in it.

I'm sorry but I'm unable to find it. Would you please provide a direct link to it? Thanks.

The runway selector is a great resource for pilots, as it follows what we would use (for the 90% scenario) when someone is online controlling. Of particular note is BWI, as it makes little sense (thank you to the people who decided land right next to the airport was perfectly suitable for housing).

While it's true than uncontrolled means it's at the pilot's discretion, using the advised runways from the runway selector is akin to using the AFD when going to a new airport. To say a real pilot would never refer to some advisory source and simply proceed at his or her own discretion would be false. In this case, the Runway Selector is your AFD.

How is the A/FD anything like these runway selectors? All it does is list runways, not recommend the ones to land on.

Some uncontrolled fields list suggested runways in the AFD.

Exactly. Thanks Daniel.

AFD [ROA]:

TAKEOFFS RY 34 & LANDINGS RY 16 NOT AUTHORIZED AT NIGHT NOR DURING IFR CONDITIONS DUE TO TERRAIN.

ZDC Runway Selector [ROA]:

No arrivals on RWY 16 / No departures on RWY 6 or RWY 34.

Active Runways:

34(A) / 24(D)

The AFD restriction is not as specific as the restriction outlined on the Runway Selector, because the AFD caters to GA as well, while the RS deals with VATSIM, which is primarily airline ops. As such, the restrictions are set on that standard.

Oh, okay. I didn't actually think about it that way. Outside of NOTAMs, we don't have a lot of uncontrolled airport runway directives around where I fly.
