connecting as a controller

I recently p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed my NYARTCC Deliver/ground test as well as the VATUSA one. I am now certified to controller ground/clearence delivery at non major facilities in the NYARTCC. My rating is student one as I have not completed the practice clearences for my major facility yet. (LGA) I downloaded both ASRC and VRC to try to connect as a ground controller at KHPN which is a non major facility in the new york airspace. I filled out all of my information to connect. In both cases I pressed connect and it said that my callsign was incorect. It would say connected and then within a few seconds disconnect me. This happened with ASRC and VRC. I put my callsign as "HPN GND" I also tried HPN ground. I even connected to the correct server and All of the other information was correct. Can someone please tell me what I can do or how to make my callsign correct.

Thank you so much,

Gavin

Gavin,

I haven't seen you around the NY Forums yet so I'll let you know here. HPN is a "major satellite" of LGA due to the fact they share common procedures and exit points. Because of this you must be certified for LGA to work HPN. The field I suggest to all new ZNY controllers would be Allentown - KABE, although there are others if you prefer.

Look forward to seeing you around, come and join us on teamspeak!

According the latest GRP (Sep 2011), KHPN is not listed as a major. You may want to continue this particular discussion off-line...

A simple question with possible devastating results But yeah, it's not our place to discuss this.

By referring to KHPN as a "major satellite", one would have to be certified to control at LaGuardia (KLGA) in order to control at KHPN as the procedures are strongly tied together and the two airports are in a very close proximity to one another.

Ex.) If you are certified to control LGA_GND. You are eligible to control HPN_DEL or HPN_GND.

no such thing as "major satellites", not defined by GRP. its Major, or it isnt, no in between.

ZMA is going to be very happy, pretty much all south Florida airports share the same procedures with the 2 international airports (MIA & FLL)

It is a local policy.

Local policy doesn't make majors. If its not listed under the GRP annex then it isnt a .

Sorry, wrong choice of words on my part. I mean that the local policy is NOT that it is a major. But it is highly recommended to not control there without being certified to control the major facility for which tracon it underlies.

So he can control HPN_GND without the Major cert.

Problem solved, everybody divert your attention now, "Look at that big pretty green blip over there!"

Ernesto, can we try not to destroy ARTCC's pretty please?

Cheers!

Rahul

I think I see the problem:

Section 9 Facility Designation

A. The following facilities are designated as Primary Major Facilities:

1. KEWR

2. KLGA

3. KJFK

4. KPHL

B. The following facilities are designated as Secondary Major Facilities

1. KFRG

2. KHPN

3. KTEB

4. KISP

C. Satellite facility

1. Defined as a non-primary facility within the TRACON of your Primary Major Facility

2. A Controller or Visiting Controller will service Satellite Facilities when providing service within a Major Facility TRACON

3. Satellite Facility service, with a Primary Major Facility TRACON, will only be provided by a Departure Controller (Level 4) or higher

D. Non-major Facilities

1. Defined as any airport, within the lateral boundaries of the New York ARTCC, that is not detailed in the above Primary Major Facilities and Secondary Major Facilities

E. Special Procedures for KISP

1. A Controller or Visiting Controller may staff the Tower Controller position at KISP providing that they are a certified Tower Controller at any of the four Primary Major Facilities

2. A Controller or Visiting Controller may staff any Approach TRACON position at KISP providing that they are certified at KJFK as a Approach Controller (Level 5)

Dan and John, perhaps you can take our concerns back to the Training Department. I have highlighted some points of interest.
