Matt Sanders 1181017 Posted December 1, 2011 at 09:08 PM Posted December 1, 2011 at 09:08 PM A very warm hello to VATCAN ATC and Pilots. I've set up a transatlantic flight from/to KJFK with London airports, primarily EGKK and EGLL. (NB Standsted is available if you wish). It would be great to cover the Atlantic route with NATS through to the UK where possible. The event is posted on vRoute for the 3rd Dec so if Pilots prebook flights in advance, ATC can see when coverage is needed. EGKK and EGLL will already be in full operation due to my working in conjunction with the Openskies UK event on the same day (see vRoute). KJFK have been notified through their NYARTCC Co-Ordinator. Hope to see as many Pilots flying the route as possilble, see you there ps I've opted for KJFK to London from 1400Z personally. My flight deck will be full of sandwiches, aviation magazines and tea service HAHA. Very best and thanks, Matt
Bryan Wollenberg 810243 Posted December 1, 2011 at 09:20 PM Posted December 1, 2011 at 09:20 PM As was said in your other post on this, I would highly recommend you directly contact the ATC units. http://vatcan.org/ Secondly, who knows how much ATC you're going to get on 2 day's notice. Hi Bryan, appreciated, as I know ATC are very busy, especially on weekends. Of course, the weekends are busy with lots of things to catch up on from the week not just VATSIM commitments. I do wish I'd posted on the forums earlier. I can only hope to gain support for the event as best as possible. The event has been posted on vRoute since Monday but of course (I, like most on VATSIM) only see the daily postings and choose flights that way. Personally I'll be checking the forthcoming weeks events every Sunday from now on. To be honest it is my first event so I didn't know VATCAN handled the Atlantic routing. Furthermore it appears that VATCAN has its own login process so I posted in the VATCAN section of the VATSIM Forums. All part of the learning process for me with events. I'm sure that prebooked transatlantic flights from Pilots for 3rd Dec will add interest in "The Four Ways" Event and help interested ATC operators to see when and where flights are booked. I do hope to see as many Pilots and ATC supporting the event wherever you are able. Many thanks for your help & very best, Matt
Alan Taylor 825557 Posted December 2, 2011 at 01:18 AM Posted December 2, 2011 at 01:18 AM Hi Matt, Bryan has covered everything that I would have told you fairly well. We will try to do everything we can to deliver your ATC request, but as mentioned you haven't left us much time, especially as we are starting to get into the Holiday Season. To [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist you further please contact Gander Oceanic directly through their website http://www.ganderoceanic.com/site/ the good news is that Saturday is usually a good day to catch Gander Oceanic online most weekends. You may wish to contact Moncton/Gander FIR Events Co-ordinator (Mike Avila) and the Montreal Events Co-ordinator (Michael Villeneuve-Normand) whose email addresses can be located from http://www.vatcan.org/about/staff.php - for obvious reasons I won't directly link their emails in this post, who I'm sure you'll find will do their best to help you with your request. Good luck with your event and hopefully we can still pull this together for you. Hi Alan, thanks for the much appreciated information. I've sent relevant emails as provided in your links. My event is such a long flight that I probably hadn't anticipated all the necessary VATSIM communications required. Alas, a newbie events co-ordinator such as myself needs all the help he can get!! Especially from Events Gurus thanks!! ----------------- Well, all I can hope for is for anyone and everyone within VATSIM to please spread the word about the event to make it a good success. I would kindly ask Transatlantic Pilots to file their flights early so ATC can see when and where aircraft are departing/arriving throughout the trip. This should make covering the 1400Z to 2200Z much more palatable for ATC Controllers, Co-ordinators and Directors throughout this airspace. I do know for sure that anyone flying into or from London between the Openskies Event timeframe will be very WELL covered for their ATC requirements. Very best, Matt
Matt Sanders 1181017 Posted December 3, 2011 at 11:28 PM Author Posted December 3, 2011 at 11:28 PM A big thank you to VATCAN for great support on the 3rd Dec "The Four Ways" Event. I've posted a full thank you list and notable statistics in the General Announcements discussion board. There were 21 transatlantic flights to or from KJFK into UK airspace going through VATCAN services. Amazing!! There were yet another 35 transatlantic flights from US airports into UK airspace!! Superb and ATC made it all worthwhile. Thanks and very best, Matt

Tim Murphy Posted December 15, 2011 at 12:31 PM Posted December 15, 2011 at 12:31 PM Hi Matt. When you fly within Canada I recommend checking out the VATCAN home page to find the appropiate link to the specific FIR you will be flying through. In this event you flew through the Moncton FIR. Alan recommended you contact Mike Avila, the QM FIR EC, which is the best thing to do. By also going to the Moncton FIR website you would also be able to get more contact info. You did the best you could have done for your first time - I might not have done such a good job. If you are flying through the Moncton FIR at any point please let me know so I can try and provide you with service Hope you have a great Holiday Season!
