If you would like to learn to ATC then, when you have an ATC rating, you would be able to join one division and become a "Visiting Controller" in the other. I'll ask Wycliffe Barrett, Membership Director for the UK, to send you an email. This is not so much a central membership issue as it is an interdivisional matter which might be why you've not heard from them yet, indeed their could be communications or referrals going on in the background.
