Really basic queston...

ok, im about to try my first flight on VATSIM. i know what i need to say etc, only problem is im not sure where to put the frequency?

 

im guessing i dont put it in the normal radio stack. Im using FSinn. Also where abouts do i put me squawk code?

you're guessing wrong. that is indeed where you dial them in.

same thing. enter it in the normal transponder. but keep in mind that the default transponder in FS9 won't let you change squawk modes. I picked up Philipp Stein's Bendix King KT76c transponder at avsim (filename: bendixking.zip) and use it as a drop-in replacement (mounted in the panels), and I must say it works excellently. let's you squawk mode STBY, C, ALT and ident, and it has a user configurable VFR squawk. highly recommended.

Just thought of another question....

 

so if im flying through unmanned ATC airspace, how do i know when to change frequency as there is no ATC to tell me.

 

I will get the hang of this VATSIM thing one day!!!

If a position is manned you will get a text message saying "contact me 123.45"

 

Simply tune to that frequency and call them - no need to send a reply by text.
