Hi.

Today 13 oct 2015 , while on line flying from KAPA to KMIA , my VPILOT V1.1.5678.20264 BETA ,using UK1 server , i got 5 disconnects in a row , as quickly as i could reconnect, after the 5th failure it reconnected and stayed connected for rest of flight, the message was as follows:-

[13:11:55] network error : p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (raw packet : s : tso759 : 1200 :1 : 55 . 41013 : nan : 591 : 0 : 4282386044 : - 494 )

[13:12:00] network error : p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (raw packet : s : tso759 : 1200 :1 : 55 . 41013 : nan : 591 : 0 : 4282386044 : - 494 )

[13:12:05] network error : p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (raw packet : s : tso759 : 1200 :1 : 55 . 41013 : nan : 591 : 0 : 4282386044 : - 494 )

[13:12:15] network error : p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (raw packet : s : tso759 : 1200 :1 : 55 . 41013 : nan : 591 : 0 : 4282386044 : - 494 )

[13:12:20] network error : p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (raw packet : s : tso759 : 1200 :1 : 55 . 41013 : nan : 591 : 0 : 4282386044 : - 494 )

At the time of the disconnections i was flying with FSX using the Carenado PC12 and ASN weather which is to SP3.

and cloud coverage was heavy , and could not see the ground below , i dont know weather ASN interfered with Vpilot in anyway ,but thought i would mention this just in case it helps identify the problem.

Regards alan.

Alan, have you made any changes to the date and number formatting settings in Windows? That was the cause of this same error for another user. You can see details in this thread in the vPilot forum:

http://www1.metacraft.com/VRC/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3381

I added a workaround for this issue in version 1.1.5638.40065, which is older than the version you're running, so I'm not sure why you're getting the issue.

I know a number of people including myself that have had this problem recently. This happen to me about 1 week ago, also on the UK server.

I just disconnected and reconnected and all was good. I do not think the problem is Vpilot, but maybe a server issue.

Hi.

About a month ago , my pc had a bias clock freeze problem , that seemed to disapear after i took out the motherboard battery , checked its voltage and put it back in , then reset the clock, but its been ok since then, and i have made a few online flights since without problems,i dont know if my ASN weather programe interfered with vpilot or not , thats why i stated in my post , that cloud cover was thick and could not see the ground below at the time.

I have the real world weather updated about every 15 min linked to vatsim weather , so i get the same weather in my fsx as is showing on vatsim and skyvector, which i use , for flight planning/weather reports .

Its just as well i was at the controls when it played up,and was able to get connect after my 5th attempt, had i been getting a brew or call of nature when it happened my flight would have been ruined, and i am attempting a round the world tour in a modified pc12,doing the route that emelia rose earhart did in her pc12 ng last year.

So my fights are going to be long ones , so i can do without this type of a problem, thankfully it does not happen to much.

Hi.

Today saturday 17 oct 2015 i have suffered yet another vpilot p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] errors , it is different from my first post, but still happened five times in quick succession , after disconnecting and reconnecting.

messages as follows.

[11 : 56 : 46] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : PSW65 : 1200 : 1 : 54 . 50561 : nan : 127 : 3 : 8390072 : 406)

[11 : 56 : 51] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : PSW65 : 1200 : 1 : 54 . 50561 : nan : 127 : 3 : 8390072 : 406)

[11 : 56 : 56] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : PSW65 : 1200 : 1 : 54 . 50561 : nan : 127 : 3 : 8390072 : 406)

[11 : 57 : 06] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : PSW65 : 1200 : 1 : 54 . 50561 : nan : 127 : 3 : 8390072 : 406)

what causes these errors , i have not changed anything within my pc , still same version of vpilot as previously mentioned and still on same uk1 server.

Looks like the longitude is "Not A Number". Makes me wonder if it's a p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error on the server or whether that value is being sent from VPilot.

Cheers!

Hi Today 18 oct 2015. yet more p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] errors , this time i had just gone in the kitchen to get a drink , came back to find it had disconnected me , and had to reconnect , i am on a long flight so i am hopeing it does not invalidate my VA flight .

The errors are as follows:-

[ 15 : 48 : 10 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : G-GHKX : 1200 : 1 : 53 .86376 : nan : 686 : 0 : 2296 : - 288)

[ 15 : 48 : 15 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : G-GHKX : 1200 : 1 : 53 .86376 : nan : 686 : 0 : 2296 : - 288)

[ 15 : 48 : 20 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : G-GHKX : 1200 : 1 : 53 .86376 : nan : 686 : 0 : 2296 : - 288)

[ 15 : 48 : 25 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : G-GHKX : 1200 : 1 : 53 .86376 : nan : 686 : 0 : 2296 : - 288)

[ 15 : 48 : 30 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : G-GHKX : 1200 : 1 : 53 .86376 : nan : 686 : 0 : 2296 : - 288)

Why does it always do this five times in a row , in quick succesion .

I disconnected and reconnected , with out a problem .

This is beginning to bug me , as to what is wrong.

I'm pretty much stumped on this one. I can't tell if the "not a number" (nan) value for the longitude is coming from vPilot, or from the server. Since it's only the longitude that is showing "nan", and the latitude is parsing fine, that makes me think it's not an issue related to regional number formatting (using comma instead of decimal) but rather an issue with the value being out of bounds or something like that.

Not sure if it helps (or if same issue or a different one) but I had a similar occurence today. Flying on UK1 using VPilot, ASN, PMDG B737-800. The messages I received are below.

[20:01:57] Network error: P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error. (Raw packet: N:C-EDRT:1200:1:62.06694:nan:285:0:4282385668:-258)

Hi.

I cannot answer that at this time , because i have always used this server since it replaced the original uk server , only time i have switched server , is when i was in the middle of a long online flight , and uk1 server went off line , possibly for maintenance , and i switched to another server , to finish my online flight with the va i fly for , as online flying is a requirment for them after a max of ten flights off line , for testing the other software set up.

I can try another server for a while and monitor the results .

Hi.

Today i got some more p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] errors messages as follows:-

[ 13 : 21 : 55 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : MTN2516 : 2200 : 1 : 49 . 19141 : nan : 22 : 0 : 20971928 :- 308)

[ 13 : 22 : 05 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : MTN2516 : 2200 : 1 : 49 . 19141 : nan : 22 : 0 : 20971928 :- 308)

[ 13 : 22 : 10 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : MTN2516 : 2200 : 1 : 49 . 19141 : nan : 22 : 0 : 20971928 :- 308)

[ 13 : 22 : 15 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : MTN2516 : 2200 : 1 : 49 . 19141 : nan : 22 : 0 : 20971928 :- 308)

[ 13 : 22 : 20 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : MTN2516 : 2200 : 1 : 49 . 19141 : nan : 22 : 0 : 20971928 :- 308)

[ 13 : 22 : 25 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : N : MTN2516 : 2200 : 1 : 49 . 19141 : nan : 22 : 0 : 20971928 :- 308)

I am using FSX still at this time UK1 server , for my weather i use ASN next at SP3 , with REX4 textures Vpilot as my online software.

ASN next SP3 altered the simconnection when it was updated , could this be the reason behind these p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] errors, that you thought you had sorted , i am not a programe writer , so i am just trying to get to the source of the ptroblem , as it is a frustration that we could all do without , i will stick with uk1 server till this pc12 round the world tour is finished , then i will try other servers , to see if and when i get these errors.

No, the issue isn't on your end. It's on the sending end. What you're seeing are the position data packets that every pilot client sends out every 5 seconds. In your example, they are coming from MTN2516. His copy of vPilot is sending invalid position packets. Something on his end is causing the longitude value to appear as "nan", which means "not a number". So something on his end is resulting in invalid longitude values. When these invalid position data packets are sent out to the server from MTN2516's vPilot, the server then rebroadcasts them to all pilots and controllers within range, and when your copy of vPilot sees "nan" as the longitude value, it throws out that p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error.

I need to figure out why some users are sending out invalid position packets. For now all I can do is collect information.

To all users who have received these errors, please answer the following question:

How many (rough number is ok) of these error messages did you get? Where there only a few (4 or 5) or did you get dozens of them? Obviously it'll depend on how long the other aircraft was in range, but what I'm trying to determine is if EVERY position data packet sent by the other aircraft was invalid, or only some of them.

Ross, is it at all interesting that the nan's were sent on the same minute that the pilot disconnected from the network?

Yeah, definitely interesting. Makes me wonder if maybe the issue is somehow related to the order in which the pilot shuts things down when ending their flight. E.g. if they close FSX/P3D before disconnecting from VATSIM, maybe in that case vPilot gets invalid values from SimConnect while the sim is shutting down.

Another possibility is that the server is forcefully disconnecting the pilot after too many erroneous packets.

Don, can you tell whether or not they appear to have finished their flights?

Okay, thanks. So it's probably reasonably safe to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume that they were not forcefully disconnected by the server after a certain number of erroneous packets.

The question remains as to why the longitude is being sent as "nan", even though the latitude is fine. Still scratching my head on that one ...

I just spoke to the pilot. His sim crashed while he was relocating from KBDL to KPVD, so obviously his FSX connection dropped and then his vPilot.

Thanks Don ... obviously, the sim crash was probably a factor here. I still don't see why the latitude is reading fine but not the longitude.

Hi .

Today i was doing leg 12 of 17 legs , from WSSL to YPDN on a round the world tour , the flight was going well , i had just gone past the last landfall , before australia , about 7 hours online flying , when something interfered with the carenado PC12 and i had catastrophic multi failures , yet i have random failures in FSX turned off , for online flying , so this should not have happened , needless to say flight was ruined , did , my flight generate any p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] errors from suddenly having to end my flight .

And i think ASN was the culprit behind my multi failures , with a posible corrupt weather data , but have no hard proof of this , but only thing i can think off as it updates the weather every 15min , i had no proir warning of any failures they all happened out of the blue .

To all users who have received these errors, please answer the following question:

(1) In my case it happened once in the past several weeks and I fly almost every day. About 8 lines of the p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error message.

(2) Why does vPilot or the VATSIM servers p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] location data if the data is clearly wrong?

Hi .

Today i did my flight from WSSL to YPDN , i was on line for over 8 hours , i had one p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error message , did not need to disconnect and reconnect , as vpilot stayed connected , the following error happed once as below:-

[ 16 : 22 : 38 ] Network error : P[Mod - Happy Thoughts] error . (Raw packet : S : BAW179 : 1200 : 1 : 51 . 47315 : nan : 96 : 0 : 1024 :-170)

When i looked at flights on vatspy , BAW179 had logged on and prebooked a flight then disconnected , hope this helps in solving these error messages.

regards alan.
