It just doesn't read metric visibility, any way to fix it?

vATIS was meant for use in the United States. Not China.

There's nothing more to answering this question... the answer is simple.

I have no immediate plans on supporting ATIS formats outside the US as this software was primarily designed for airports within the United States.

vATIS was built to replicate the real-world D-ATIS system used in the United States

vATIS was built with the purpose of simulating the real world D-ATIS system used throughout the United States.

I think Sebastien was speaking more to the fact that you could've been a tad more sensitive in your response. While you provided a straight-forward answer, you could've been more respectful, as your reply came off quite attitudey, in my personal opinion. Perhaps in the future providing a more helpful and informative explanation would be the better route, rather than singling out China...

Ah, yes, because sugar-coating the truth and wrapping it up in warm, cushy feelings is of course a better approach.

Now it's my turn to use this emote...

Camden has got the idea.

Fangwen, maybe there is a way that you can manually type in the VIS and let vATIS decode the plain english?

Nope, just being kind and trying to provide some [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance (like Sebastien just did) is never a bad thing. I think there's a fine medium between "wrapping it up in warm, cushy feelings" and giving a flat, unhelpful answer, which singles out an individual country.

Anyway, i'll go back to my corner at the sugar-coating factory now

Yes, and let's not forget that metric visibility is used in all but 3 countries (CAN/USA/MEX)

Camden, I'll join you at the factory!

Too bad vATIS was created for one of those 3 countries then.

Not every application is going to be suitable/compatible for use in every single region in the world. There will be programs that are released that you can use in your division. There will also be programs that you will simply need to p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] on because they were targeted for a different audience. You cant get everything you want in life. Deal with it.

(There's your "attitudey" response)

I certainly don't need life lessons from you, pal.

I'm not critisizing JS for creating a client that isn't suitable for certain parts of the world.

Your answer to Fangwen was useless, ignorant and lacked tact.

Actually, I like to see it as simple, short, and to the point which is how I like it.

Sorry you don't like it... Kind of.

I say we lay this post to rest. No more drama needed.

I have to agree with Camden and I will join him at the sugar coating factory...

Joshua, nobody criticized you for telling Fangweng that vATIS is not compatible with metric METARs. The bit about "Not China" was simply not very tactful, some may call it "ignorant", as almost the entire world works with metric visibility. Also, nobody criticized the author of vATIS for not allowing metric data, it is entirely his choice.

Joshua, you did not have to become so defensive. You could have said "point taken, but I disagree" and everything would have been easy. And then our special friendly Bradley had to chime in with his words of wisdom

Anyways, we all know now what was meant. Apologies for Fangweng that his thread drifted this way, not the finest way of VATSIM...

Sorry for creating some unpleasant moments because of this post.

I did try to let vATIS to read metric, but all my effort is useless.

Instead of using vATIS, PRC division members started to use alternative ways of creating ATIS - like using the Euroscope generated one.

Thanks for everyone's help, and case closed.
