Unable to pick up track

Another newbie (noob) question.

I am able to auto track departing aircraft. I am able to pick up a track to an aircraft with a beacon code I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned. I am unable to pick up tracks using the method in command reference sheet. F3 (QT), click location, call sign, enter. The CST data tag appears over the primary target but the track never starts. What am I doing wrong? In this example N66JE departed KPNE. I tried to pick up his track after he took off and no joy.

Altitude Limits set to 000B999 and every thing is pressed under radar filter.

Has the flight plan been activated by using the command "DM N66GE"?

I did not find DM in the command reference sheet other than under F1. Using DM on departing aircraft seems to work.

Yeah, DMing the aircraft actives their flightplan. If you have autotrack on for some airports, it essentially does the DMing for you.
