First day and just trying to get setup. Not sure how to make my own callsign so I am hoping one of you guys can give me a callsign for a Cessna Skyhawk 172 and how to pronounce it to ATC, any reply is appreciated, thanks!

If you're in the USA. Use any combination of 5 letters and numbers with the numbers always preceding the letters.

For example...

N575AM

N6774U

N598MT

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Forever and always "Just the events guy"

Because when you call in, you replace "November" with the word "Skyhawk."

ATC will know the aircraft type, since you will put it into the flight plan you are going to file...

Hi Evan,

what country are you going to fly in? In the US it is as Matt has stated it. When flying in Europe, for example, it is not common to call ATC with "Skyhawk blablabla". In Europe you just call ATC with your full registration and only when talking to someone who is in charge of your departure/arrival will you mention your type of aircraft in the initial call. For example:

Pilot: "Frankfurt Tower, D-EGPS"

ATC: "D-EGPS, Frankfurt Tower"

Pilot: "D-EGPS, Cessna 172 from blabla to Frankfurt airport, position 5 minutes south of reporting point blabla at 2000ft, request to join control zone for landing"

From then on you won't have to mention your type of aircraft again to this controller.
