The Mid Summer Madness! Team and VATSIM UK are delighted to announce the latest rendition of VATSIM UK's longest running event.

On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of August 2019, Birmingham Airport (EGBB) will host its 13th Annual Mid Summer Madness (MSM) Event. Birmingham Airport will be fully staffed from 1000-1900Z (1100-2000 BST) on both days.

There are no flight bookings, so just turn up and fly to and/or from EGBB in whatever you like, whenever you like and as many times as you like! Please help us celebrate the 13th anniversary of this fantastic event by flying in and out of Birmingham - the skies are guaranteed to be busy around EGBB on the 3rd and 4th of August!

Prizes!

This year we've again teamed up with UK2000 Scenery, Flight1 Software and Majestic Software. Thanks to the generosity of these fantastic companies, we're able to offer the following prizes to pilots who fly in or out of Birmingham during the event weekend:

UK2000 Scenery http://www.uk2000scenery.com/index.php– for two winners, a product of your choice from their store, either Xtreme range airports or VFR Airfields 1, 2 or 3.

Flight1 Software http://www.flight1.com/– for two winners, a product of your choice from their store up to $69.95.

Majestic Software http://majesticsoftware.com/mjc8q400/– Majestic Dash 8 Q400 PRO version.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning one of these amazing prizes is have "MSMXIII" or "MSM13" written in your flight plan remarks and fly one whole flight into or out of EGBB during the event timings whilst connected to the VATSIM network. EGBB arrivals that depart prior to 1000z but arrive at EGBB after 1000Z, and likewise with EGBB departures that depart before 1900Z but arrive at their destination after 1900Z, are included in the draw - as long as the entire flight is done online. The more flights you make, the greater your chances of winning!

Important Stuff

There have been significant changes to EGBB SIDs recently. Please ensure you have AIRAC 1906 or later installed. AIRAC 1908 will be current during the event.

Default scenery for EGBB is extremely inaccurate. Please have addon scenery for EGBB installed. Freeware and payware scenery for EGBB can be found at UK2000 Scenery as well as on avsim and flightsim.com.

The initial climb on all SIDs at EGBB is altitude 6000 feet.

We look forward to seeing you there!

We're looking forward to a fantastic event this weekend at Birmingham.

Please can we remind all pilots to ensure they have the latest AIRAC data and charts. There have been a lot of changes recently at Birmingham with several new SIDS.

Also it is really helpful if you have the correct scenery installed. The default scenery doesn't show positions correctly so you could end up on top of someone else! There is plenty free scenery available from the links above. UK2000, who is one of our sponsors, has a very realistic product available on their website - http://www.uk2000scenery.com/index.php

On the Sunday, for anyone that fancies the long haul option there is the Dubai RealOps event 1500Z - 2000Z so you can do one of the daily flights from EGBB to OMDB and take advantage of Full ATC at both ends.

Morning!

Day 2 of this fantastic event is now well underway. We have full ATC at Birmingham, including London Control so we are fully surrounded. Great ATC is guaranteed all the way in and out of Birmingham. To top it off, there are some fantastic prizes on offer - see the original post for details of how to enter the draw to be in with a chance of winning.

See you there!

This weekend, EGBB saw 156 movements on Saturday and 174 movements on Sunday - which I believe is the joint busiest day in MSM history.

Thanks to all pilots for flying in and out giving us something to do! Thanks also to Henry for organising another top weekend away.

Looking forward to the next one!
