[Adapted from a post originally written in 2007 by Norman Blackburn]

The servers and their IPs can change over time.

Below you will see a snippet of code. You can either save it all as sb3.reg and then run this file once only (it can be saved anywhere on your SB3 machine) or you can simply enter in one of the IP addresses manually.

Currently-valid link to find servers: http://info.vroute.net/vatsim-servers.txt

Currently-valid servers:

CANADA:165.22.239.218:Toronto, Canada:CANADA:1:

GERMANY-1:157.230.25.177:Frankfurt, Germany:GERMANY-1:1:

SINGAPORE:68.183.185.148:Singapore:SINGAPORE:1:

SYD-1:107.191.56.188:Sydney, Australia:SYD-1:1:

UK-1:209.97.177.84:London, UK:UK-1:1:

USA-East:134.209.67.219:New York, USA:USA-EAST:1:

USA-West:165.22.163.56:San Francisco, USA:USA-WEST:1:

And updated corresponding code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Level 27 Technologies\SquawkBox\3\Networks\VATSIM]
"Name0"="CANADA"
"Description0"="Toronto, Canada"
"Address0"="165.22.239.218"
"Name1"="GERMANY-1"
"Description1"="Frankfurt, Germany"
"Address1"="157.230.25.177"
"Name2"="SINGAPORE"
"Description2"="Singapore"
"Address2"="68.183.185.148"
"Name3"="SYD-1"
"Description3"="Sydney, Australia"
"Address3"="107.191.56.188"
"Name4"="UK-1"
"Description4"="London, UK"
"Address4"="209.97.177.84"
"Name5"="USA-East"
"Description5"="New York, USA"
"Address5"="134.209.67.219"
"Name6"="USA-West"
"Description6"="San Francisco, USA"
"Address6"="165.22.163.56"

I copied snippet to my computer and tried to run it

get this error

Cannot import F:SquakBox-SB3.reg. The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor

No idea what to do now. SQB3 goes to the registery to obtain the info I guess?

Need to add this line at the start:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

And if you get an error about the file not being supported by your version of Windows, use this as the version line instead:

REGEDIT4

Developer: vPilot, VRC, vSTARS, vERAM, VAT-Spy

Senior Controller, Boston Virtual ARTCC

Yes, SB is being retired in the next several weeks. Once you're on P3D, I recommend vPilot. If you're still on FS9 when SB is retired, you could try the swift beta.

Hi Anthony,

My understanding is that Swift will NOT work under Windows XP.

Additionally Microsoft stopped supporting XP over 5 years ago. I appreciate of course that there are great websites out there who exist solely to keep XP going for as long as possible.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/windows/end-of-windows-xp-support

After 12 years, support for Windows XP ended April 8, 2014. Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for the Windows XP operating system. It is critical to migrate now to a modern operating system.

OK, I added the sb3.reg file into exactly as typed and made sure it added to the registry.

I last flew onVATSIM 2-25-2020. I have now flown 3 flights WITHOUT being able to connect. I added in this file and I still cannot connect. I Start FS9, Fie up my PMDG B-737, go to the airport , and then attempt to connect Squawkbox.

Squawkbox begins to load and then freezes on screen with the load message at bottom of "Fetching Server Info: Loading network info for VATSIM" and that is it. No way to close it or make any changes, all I can do it close FS9.

I even went so far as to uninstall and reinstall sb3.reg file , added in the sb3.reg file and still get the same thing.

Any help?

Hi Dennis,

another user has found a cure for this (see the other thread here in this section!): within the directory of Squawkbox look for a file called "vatsim.dll". Delete or move it to somewhere else. SB will work then again.

Not sure exactly what, but something changed recently...

Please review this thread: https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=82033

Recall, of course, that SB development ceased 12 years ago... So you're really on borrowed time... A year ago, duct tape was keeping SB working. Now it's really cheap Scotch tape.... You'll likely need to upgrade soon....

Depending on your operating system, of course, swift may be another option. Or more options open up if you upgrade your sim....
