Is this really a question about a problem with the Audio For VATSIM voice system? This seems to be more a "how do I VATSIM" question.

Answer -- VAT-Spy, VATtastic, or whatever variation of the "controllers online now" list exists in whichever Pilot Client you're using.

There's some good reading for new pilots here (https://www.vatsim.net/pilot-resource-centre) that you should spend some time with before getting too much deeper. It will save you and others much frustration.

vPilot shows a list of controllers online

If I was located at KLAX and logged in to see this:

I would scroll down in the left side and see if LAX_DEL or LAX_GND or LAX_TWR were online and tune to one of those, using the radios in the aircraft.
