Hello guys,

VATSIM does not allow creation of events recognizing real world tragedies, especially not current ones. The way you have advertised it unfortunately makes it violate VATSIM Code of Conduct article A(17):

A17 - The re-creation of, or organization of events recognizing real world disasters, tragedies, or other such events, particularly those which resulted in loss of life, are not permitted. [ ... ]

We appreciate the work you have done to arrange this, but unfortunately we cannot accept such an event on the network.

I will email you a copy of this answer for confirmation, let me know there should you have any questions.

A17 does not refer to non-aviation events on the ground that get virtual air support. A17 was meant to stop people re-creating terrorist attacks and air disasters/accidents. Is this coordinated with the VP SUP?

Mats is this not an unnecessary enforcement of the rule? I think Andreas has a point; I think it is appropriate to consider the context of this event. No air disaster has occurred. There's been no terrorist attack. I believe it should be seen simply as a humanitarian aid event.

I know I'm just a little voice but I just want to make a fair suggestion - the fly-in could be made to commemorate the real-life event and to show respect to those who p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed away and their families.

I don't think it's fitting to fly in there if it's still very active. It would be more fitting to fly in there once the virus has p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed.

Well, actually in real-life, planes are flying in to Wuhan every single day to transport medical supplies. I don't think it's not flitting to fly in since we aren't facing the risks as the real-life pilots and crews do.

From the VSOA Policy.

2.4.1.12. VATSIM does not allow operations of any kind that simulate past/present day real world

engagements such as loss of life/property, or portraying operations covering political, social, or religious

objectives. Supporting a country in mutual and/or humanitarian aid is acceptable, i.e., relief for

earthquakes, volcanic eruption, other natural disasters, etc.

From the same policy, humanitarian operations are not restricted to VSO's

1.7. ACTIVITIES RESTRICTED TO VSO. VSO organizations are permitted to engage in the following activities:

-Conducting joint training exercises with other approved VSO organizations

-War games

-Air to air refueling

-Carrier operations

-Flying low level military training routes

-Flying escort missions

-Executing air combat maneuvers

-Interception/scramble of other aircraft

-Having access to special use airspace.

-Search & Rescue and Firefighting

VATSIM does not allow civilian airlines or pilots who do not belong to a VSO organization to perform the above

operations.

Interpretation of the policy, is that VATSIM does not specifically prohibit Humanitarian operations, nor is it restricted to VSO's only.

Gents, A17 applies to any tragic situation. The situation in China right now is quite tragic and there has been loss of life. As such, VATSIM will not allow users to use such an event as a means to draw traffic regardless of the reason. It may be semantics, but a fly-in to Wuhan just because is perfectly fine, but a fly-in to Wuhan to provide virtual support for a very real crisis is not.

I will be locking this thread now.
