Audio Reception Periodically Stops on the Controller Side

Over the last month or so myself and several other controllers have noticed that the receive side of AFV will terminate. All pilots are able to hear us transmit but we are unable to hear them. This requires a restart of AFV which will rectify the problem but I have had it happen again within 30-45 min. of the same session. Sometimes if I close AFV, it will not reopen and a full computer restart is required. I do not see any other posts about this issue. I am forwarding the 50000 port as well. A pilot mentioned to me tonight that he has had the same issue with other controllers that he has encountered.

I can confirm this as I was in the Jacksonville area on two separate occasions where as we pilots lost connection with Center. We could talk amongst ourselves but Center could not hear us despite the fact we could hear him.

I've experienced this on the ATC side as well. Don't know how to reproduce it as it happens randomly.

Likewise. There's no indication in AFV; the "TX" light still illuminates and (as Howard said) the software still transmits voice. Pilots can hear me fine; I can't hear them.

After a few minutes, someone normally texts saying they can hear me and then I'll restart AFV to resolve the issue. When I click the "X" to close AFV, each time I've had this issue a JIT error window appears. The error does not appear when the audio cuts out; only when I click the "X" icon and try to close the program. I will take a screenshot of the error next time this happens.

Update: this issue just happened to me. I was transmitting, pilots could hear me, but I couldn't hear them. The AFV window appeared just as it normally does.

Once I realized the issue, I closed AFV and saw the following error message. The full text from the JIT debugging window is included at the bottom of this post.

I have repeatedly noticed that the issue happens much more frequently in the following scenario: 

  1. I pre-load my facility's pre-created stations (so AFV looks like this), and use a non-primary position:

  2. I manually delete several of the positions I'm not using, so AFV looks like this:

  3. I add another facility's stations, so I can monitor the underlying controller, so AFV looks like this:

  4. I then delete THOSE extraneous positions, so AFV looks like this:

Historically, at some point, the issue I described/screenshotted above will happen. It won't be immediate, but it will happen in the next 1-3 hours. 

I have had the issue happen without doing these steps, but I've found that having multiple frequencies monitored as I've described above tends to make this audio cut-out happen much more frequently.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:
