Is there an ILS on 24R?

I believe there is an ILS (localiser and gildepath) to RWY 24R. It is RWY 24L that does not have an ILS in FS.

I had a problem with RWY24 unless i'm mistaken.

How do people fly it in a session? Is there a fix for this. I hear that people do DME approches which this/these runways?

Fly into EGCC regulalry and the LOC and ILS seem to work fine, although I use UK2000 scenery so maybe the ILS has been added by the scenery upgrade ? Having said that I cannot recall any probs even in my early days using default scenery

Yes.

Again, I use UK2000 but also had no problem picking up the LLZ and Glideslope for 24R even on default scenery.

I forgot to say. I am using the 737ng PMDG. I followed the procedure, by arming the LOC switch, then switch the APP switch on. But on this runway 24R the AC establishes the localiser but does not catch the glidepath, and slows up to a very slow speed(stall speed). I am sure this will happen over and over again. In fact after missing the approach the first time around, I tried again to catch the glide, but again with no success. Got it down in the end but a bit of a botch.

I use the default 2004 scenery.

The PMDG does catch the glidslope at EGCC fine - you need to be able to basically fly into it though and not be too high or you may miss it .

Your plane should not stall if approach speed and flaps correct - I usually have Flaps 5 at 180 knots for intercept and when 160 knots drop to 10 degrees and as you descend increase the flaps - most times at EGCC Flaps 30 is enough but that is your choice.

Also make sure your ILS frequency is on both radio stacks and active.

Finally there is always the old fashioned way of hand flying the aircraft and the PMDG is very good for this - you will still need to set up with Flaps etc

I do knot engage APPR button until loc established and G/S is one dot above the centre.

Hope that helps a bit.

I don't userly have any trouble with ILS approches, in the PMDG. the same runway the other end 06L it lands fine. On the runway 24R it seems to be punching into a GO around, but with no power, this happens with some runways, but not others. I can fly the plane fine, but I was in IMC conditions. So could not do a visual APP. I am aware of the flap scheduling.

Maybe I was just too high as you say.

Ok seems strange - have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling - sometimes when I put new scenery in it upsets PMDG and have to reinstall.

Good luck

Let me just reiterate

I think this localiser you have to be not too high, 2000f. Alot of the other localisers seem to let you come in a bit higher.

At Manchester you would be vectored onto 24R at around 3500ft due to terrain so be careful.

I have no idea how this app would work in real life. The Pennine's are are 10nm away from the app. The controllers are excellent, they will get me down.

I believe the runway designations changed recently to 05/23, is this recognised in FSX or the sp1 update?
