VATSIM UK is pleased to announce an evening of ATC, aimed at helping newer pilots.

There will be a new pilot-focused event in the west of England on Saturday 12th September. The aim is to provide a laid-back atmosphere where newer pilots can practice their flying skills. Cardiff (EGFF), Bristol (EGGD), and Jersey (EGJJ) will be staffed fully, with people on hand to assist pilots. Alternatively, if you’re an experienced pilot, come fly and enjoy the full ATC!

Staffed Positions:

Alternatively, if you aren’t flying between the listed aerodromes, only into or out of one of them, routes can be found on http://www.simbrief.com.

Speed: Your speed should be 250 knots or less when any of the following are true and ATC has not issued you with a conflicting speed restriction:

  • You are below FL100 (10,000ft).
  • You are on a STAR and have passed the SLP (Speed Limit Point) marked on the relevant chart.
  • You are on a STAR and will arrive at CDF, BRI, JSY, or JW (the terminal hold) in 3 minutes or less.

In addition, some STARs (though not for the event airports) will have specific speed restrictions at certain waypoints. These are marked directly next to the waypoint, on the chart.

We hope to see our new friends there.

Thanks for this event! I did Cardiff -> Jersey -> Bristol. Great coverage all around. Really appreciated the more laid back coverage. Or maybe I'm just getting the hang of this! 😉

You're welcome!  It was myself on Bristol Radar towards the end of the event and I recall you coming in.

I'd say it's both - the controllers on when you flew are all a relaxed bunch, plus the South West of the UK is a far more relaxed area to control than around London!  Plus, you followed the instructions perfectly so you're certainly getting the hang of it if you haven't got it already!

Look forward to seeing you around there again soon
