Impossible to manoeuvre the vatsim community for new pilots

Who is the designers for all the vatsim webpages and systems?
It is almost impossible to find anything for new pilots.

After a while I finally found the correct page to do the  New Member Orientation Course, but the final exams is no where to be found.

Browsing all the information pages I have stumbled upon I don't know how many links that just show 404.

Some pages just sends you in a loop. "Go here to do this", and on that page, you are told to do-this before you can do it, and you are then sent back to page 1..

You also have all the different VACC that have their own pages.

And don't get me started about the learning Center at my.vatsim.net..

Looks to me that this "organization" has grown to fast and is to big to be handled by the people in charge! 🤯

Anyway... that was my 5 minutes of tantrum.

Where is the my exam!?!

Have you completed the New Member Orientation course? That needs to be done prior to having your exam assigned. However I looked into this and saw the exam was indeed assigned. I’ve deleted that assignment and reassigned it, so please recheck and see if you can see it now in the myVATSIM exam center.

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Hello, John.

I'm sorry you're having troubles!  We recently migrated from our old, nearly 20 year old, registration system, to a new one, a few months ago.  With over 32,000 registrations since it went into effect, I was guessing and hoping we would have gotten past all of the "transition pains", but I guess not yet!  More information on the process you were following, and specifically which pages/links led you to 404 errors, would be greatly helpful so we can clarify the process and fix the pages/links.  It would be great for us to see the process through the eyes of someone new, trying to navigate, so we can make it as easy as possible for those to come!

While you're right that we have grown a tremendous amount, 39% more active members than just a year ago, honestly I'd chalk it up to the whole new registration and education system, which truly was revolution, and not just evolution, for us.

Your welcome email should have pointed you to my.vatsim.net for the New Member Orientation and exam.

I am a little perplexed, because although you say you have already completed the course, I don't see that you have.  I'm reaching out to my friends in web services to see if they can investigate further.

If you are looking for your New Member orientation, please login to my.vatsim.net and click on the link that is shown immediately after login.

If you are looking for your New Member exam, please login to my.vatsim.net and look toward the bottom of the menu on the left, under "Education Hub", for the "My Exams" menu item.

Again, please pass on the process you were following and the URLs to the pages that gave you trouble, so we can get that cleaned up.  Thanks!

I would comment that a number of links related to training programs seem to have become broken after the introduction of the new system.

The pages introducing VATSIM to pilots suggests that you can just register, login and go flying.  I believe that is no longer the case so that everybody starts at P0/Observer and must pass some theory exams and  a practical test before being allowed to login and fly. If that is the case, it should be explained more clearly from the outset. I've also seen a button on my training dashboard that seems to allow real world pilots to bypass that process, but have not seen that described anywhere or what privileges/benefits that affords.

A few examples of broken links for new beginners that might be revised:

https://www.vatsim.net/pilot-resource-centre/vatsim-basics/expectations-and-requirements-pilots near the bottom "HERE"

https://www.vatsim.net/pilots/getting-started
Second last paragraph hyperlink: Pilot Training Programmes

https://www.vatsim.net/pilots/training
Left hand sidebar menu (in the box starting Pilot Ratings P1 etc.) All links broken

You are absolutely right. However we are working on redoing our website solution, and as such we don't prioritize updating the soon-to-be deprecated information. Users are directed towards the new training modules and Pilot Learning Center, but for now the information on the old page (including Google searches) is a bit outdated. This will hopefully be resolved soon!
