I can login and speak to controllers perfectly and hear them and other members just fine. After some time I suddenly only hear static noise when somebody is broadcasting. The static transmissions you are hearing are other pilots who are a long way away from you. The manual: https://audio.vatsim.net/storage/AFV User Guide.pdf explains it all in exceptionally far too much detail. Section 4 should give you all the info you need to know.
