In case you missed the announcement in the VATPAC forums...

Thunder Down Under II features three locations around Australia and one in New Zealand operating as ATC centres, staffed by VATPAC members providing continuous ATC coverage for 29 hours across Australia and New Zealand.

Thunder Down Under pioneered the the ATC Centre concept back in 2000, with several VATPAC members hosting a modest air traffic centre in an office in Sydney. Over the past year, VATPAC has featured three centre events - OZtravagaNZa, Southern Storm and Flywest LIVE! all of which have been an outstanding success.

This year, it gets even bigger, with Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Auckland hosting ATC Centres for local VATPAC members to control from during the event. Some positions will also be made available to off-site participants, with final details of coverage and positions being released in the week prior to the event.

Thunder Down Under II blasts off on Friday 6 May at 0900z/1900 AEST and runs until Saturday 7 May at 1400z/2400 AEST, so clear your diary!

The Thunder Down Under II website will be progressively updated leading up to the event and outline requirements for on-site ATC participation and pilot resources. Controllers, if you're interested in participating on-site in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney or Auckland, sign up now!

The weekend of May 6/7 promises to be one of the largest events in the VATSIM Calendar with the OCEANIA region sponsored by VATPAC coming alive on May 6 at 0900 Zulu and finishing when the OneSky event starts at 1400 Zulu May 7.

All the ATC centres (Sydney, Melbourne Perth and Auckland) mentioned by Andrew will be open continually for 29hrs and will welcome international pilots visiting our airspace in the peak hours of the USA and European Friday evening May 6th.

Particpating OneSky pilots could even plan a long haul from any of the areas in OCEANIA and arrive into Europe during OneSky. Oceanic airspace will be covered for most of the time.
