Voice Cutouts

Hello,

when I speak on VRC and hold my talk button (²)(I've tried 'normal' buttons before and same thing) for long enough, it just cuts for about half a second or so. It can get very annoying when giving a clearance for example. I often have to repeat

Thanks,

Seb

This sounds like a port issue. Check that the ports on your router are open as typed in the VRC Manual.

Hi,

It sounds like your sound device doesn't support full duplex. What sound device do you have on your computer and have you updated the drivers recently (or ever)?

Cheers!

Sound Card: Realtek Hi Definition Audio

Headset: Microsoft LX-3000

Should I update my soundcard?

EDIT: I also noticed that when I'm on Wave, it cuts out, but when I'm on Direct sound, it doesnt...

I think you've found your solution. This is what I was going to ask you to do next (switch device drivers) and it has sorted it out for you.

Cheers!

Yes, Paul, but I've also heard that Directsound is of lower quality of some sort.. could you clarify this?

That was Paul, actually.

I haven't done any tests to see which is higher quality, so I can't say. I wouldn't worry about it, since we're only simulating voice over VHF radio here, which doesn't need very high quality anyway.

Hmm, Ok, I guess I'll try directsound, and we'll see what the pilots think

Hi,

I've never noticed any discernible difference between direct sound and wave, even on TS (with a better quality codec).

It won't make any difference on VATSIM.

Cheers!
