Making the switch from MSFS, will I see a performance boost?

I'm making the switch from FSX to X-Plane 9 this week (ordered the discs this morning, should see them sometime between the 14th and 17th) and am wondering how much of a boost in performance I would see. I've tried the demo but 10 minutes at a time really isn't much of a help in figuring it out. My specs are below:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (2.4GHz Dual)

Video: nVidia GeForce 8800GT (512MB)

RAM: 6GB

SATA drives (500GB main, 200GB secondary)

Acer x223w @ 1680x1050 and Toshiba Regza 40RV525U @ 1920x1080

Vista Ultimate x64 SP2

C-Media surround sound card and onboard Realtek stereo sound (latter for voice)

If helicopters are so safe, how come there are no vintage/cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ic helicopter fly-ins?

I'm not very good with computer specs and all that mumbo jumbo but.. from what Ive seen, your computer is a bit better than mine and I get great results with X Plane 9.

Superb Graphics, possibly better than FSX (especially at high altitudes... just b-e-a-utiful).

Flight model is better...it feels like you're actually flying...

etc. etc. The list goes on.

Here are some thumb downs:

The default models are kinda weird looking (especially the cockpit panel...)

Dont worry !! There are some great freeware aircraft (especially the x737... just wow..)

Here are my favorite links:

x737

Remember Lots of X plane 8 aircraft work pefectly with X Plane 9 ! Thats a bonus..

And another downer: Airports dont come with buildings and it can be quite boring on the ground... so there is a X Plane scenery directory: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=110589489135818999836.0004486decd31e3b30242&ll=4.565474,39.375&spn=128.193247,225&z=2&source=embed

There is also XP-Jets who makes superb 777 models (freeware): http://www.xpjets.com/

I

I think thats it

With Specs like that you should just go with FS9 and get way better graphics and performance, who could turn down the PMDG?

How are you liking X-Plane so far? I used to be MFS user, had X-Plane 8.6 as well but never really got into it. After becoming frustrated over FSX, I made the switch to X-Plane 9 and have never looked back. I love it!

Good We should all have an X-Plane fly in one of these days/nights. Have those ever been scheduled before?

I like X-Plane a lot. It's cross-platform and bundles all editions on the disk. It has superior model texture quality IMHO too.

Apparently you haven't seen FSX payware aircraft from PMDG, Flight1, or RealAir

Anyway, to the OP, probably would but mainly because XP's default visibility setting is highly dependent on your system. So it would be low like 20 miles or something. Once you increase it to RW figures you'll see similar performance with FSX as long as your system is tuned properly.
