Cross the Ditch is brought to you by VATPAC and VATNZ. For sixteen hours this December, the skies over the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand will be filled with aircraft all on a mission to Cross the Ditch.

An example of that typical down-under understatement, this "ditch" is over 1100nm wide. The three flight routes - each between a pair of major cities on opposite sides of the Tasman - range from three to four-and-a-half hours flight time.

Throughout the event, the Oceania region's two divisions will providing full gate-to-gate ATC coverage, making this the Southern Hemisphere's premiere oceanic event.

City Pairs

Auckland NZAA and Melbourne YMML

Wellington NZWN and Sydney YSSY

Christchurch NZCH and Brisbane YBBN

The event will consist of flights in both directions between these pairs throughout the day.

Calling all Pilots and Controllers

Book your flight via the dedicated website http://avigation.net/events/crosstheditch/

Pilot information:

Cross the Ditch pilots are required to utilize "Oceanic Position Reporting". To standardise these reports please use the VATNZ Oceanica Position Reporting Tool. Simply fill-in the details and read the formatted report. Please note that "online" the information from temperature down is not required.

Selective Calling (pronounced Sell Call) is a pair of audible tones sent to alert pilots ATC wants to contact them.

FSInn users will find this option under the INN control panel > settings > basic. Choose the tones from the drop down lists and add to your persistant header eg. SELCAL/AGDM. This persistant header is essential as this allows ATC to activate your Sell Call
