Jeroen Hozée 1142193 Posted January 27, 2010 at 09:42 AM Posted January 27, 2010 at 09:42 AM Hello, It seemed a good idea to me to give a brief introduction after joining VATSIM. I'm 37 years old, living in the Netherlands. A small shop owner now, but I was trained as a maritime navigation officer. A few years ago I flew online through IVAO, but stopped flying online because my computer wasn't powerful enough after a while. Recently I bought a mac, X-plane 9 and decided to go back to online flight. I choose to join the United States division, although I live in Europe, for a few reasons. I have the Final Frontier scenery for X-plane installed and have the real sectional charts for Ketchikan and Juneau. And since I like flying small planes VFR it's less realistic to do so in evening hours with the X-plane clock set a few hours off. In my evening hours, it's daylight in Alaska. I'll be spending the first times online just listening and studying, but I'm looking forward to the studying. Hope to see you online, Jeroen Hozée

Jeroen Hozée 1142193 Posted January 27, 2010 at 07:47 PM Author Posted January 27, 2010 at 07:47 PM Thank you for the welcoming. For now I'm printing a few things from the Vatsim Pilot Resource Center. I'm having enough reading to do before my first login.
Aharon Dayan Posted January 28, 2010 at 03:01 PM Posted January 28, 2010 at 03:01 PM Since you like Alaska flying, you should check out virtual airlines specializing in Alaska flying. I would recommend you to join Mountain Air at its website: http://www.mountain-air.org/ and go to Juneau hub where you can see lots of Alaska flying. Also, you should frequency Alaskan Vatsim website at: http://www.vzanartcc.net/forums/index.php and participate in special events hosted by Alaskan Vatsim controllers. There is event next week out of PANC and PAFA. Aharon
Jeroen Hozée 1142193 Posted January 29, 2010 at 08:08 AM Author Posted January 29, 2010 at 08:08 AM Thanks as well for the links. I tried to register for that forum, but it's got rather strict acces? I just received this mail: "Regrettably, your application to join Anchorage ARTCC Forums has been rejected."
Aharon Dayan Posted January 29, 2010 at 02:58 PM Posted January 29, 2010 at 02:58 PM Thanks as well for the links. I tried to register for that forum, but it's got rather strict acces? I just received this mail: "Regrettably, your application to join Anchorage ARTCC Forums has been rejected." That is because registration instructions are misleading and have me fooled too. You are supposed to use your full name and your Vatsim ID number as user name. Re-register again using your full name and your Vatsim ID number and your application to join the Alaskan forums will be accepted immediately. To Alaskan controllers, Would you please change the registration instructions to make it BIGGER statement that full name and vatsim number must be used to register? Thanks, Aharon
Romano Lara Posted January 29, 2010 at 03:05 PM Posted January 29, 2010 at 03:05 PM To Alaskan controllers, Would you please change the registration instructions to make it BIGGER statement that full name and vatsim number must be used to register? Thanks, Aharon I don't see the need because its already there. In fact, you will see it there first hand when you hit on register together with an example to ensure that everyone sees it right. Jeroen, I'd like to personally welcome you to VATUSA we are very glad that you considered this Division as your home. I also see your interest with Alaska, we at ZAN are regularly manning our scopes. You'll regularly see us online from 2300 or sometimes earlier, onwards. See you in the skies! Aharon Dayan Posted January 29, 2010 at 03:22 PM Posted January 29, 2010 at 03:22 PM I don't see the need because its already there. In fact, you will see it there first hand when you hit on register together with an example to ensure that everyone sees it right. Yes it is already there on bottom of registration form which is precisely why applicants miss that. It should be moved up to top of registration form so that applicants can see that full name with vatsim ID number is required for username for registration. If you honestly think there is no need, then why do people like Jeroen Hozée 1142193 miss that important instruction?? That is because it is on bottom below registration form. You have to remember Vatsim is INTERNATIONAL body full of international people from many countries and many of them may have limited command of English therefore they will miss that rule too. Hence my suggestion to have the requirement of full name and vatsim number MOVED to above the registration form so that all people can see it. Even people with perfect command of English such as me miss that rule on the bottom of registration form. Aharon
Romano Lara Posted January 29, 2010 at 03:54 PM Posted January 29, 2010 at 03:54 PM When did you last checked the registration page... Maybe you should check again? Besides, even if it's at the bottom of the page, it should be seen. Before you get to see the checkbox you will have to check for you to register, its right above it when it was still at the bottom of that page. So what's the excuse of not seeing it there when its actually there? I don't think the position of that important notice matters, what matters most is how you pay attention to the things written in that very page. Unless its not really on the registration page and nowhere to be found, you can blame it on us. Jeroen Hozée 1142193 Posted January 29, 2010 at 04:18 PM Author Posted January 29, 2010 at 04:18 PM Thanks again. I'm not sure if the instructions where there or not. I decided not to use my full name, seeing what this forum had already made of my 'é'. Guessing it's a RTFM on my part. Will try again soon. I filed another register request. And it was really my fault, this can be seen at the top of the page: **************************************************************************************************************************************** USERNAME FORMAT REQUIRED IS: Firstname Lastname VATSIM ID All formats other than this will be rejected. Example: Mike Scott 875722 **************************************************************************************************************************************** I guess the framerate fog from x-plane affected my brain. Chris McGee Posted January 29, 2010 at 09:58 PM Posted January 29, 2010 at 09:58 PM As the webmaster for the Anchorage ARTCC most people will register with the forums before reading any of the terms and agreements. I'm working on having the email when denied to state that fact that you are required to register with this format. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone.
