Michael Stein 1035507 Posted February 7, 2010 at 06:55 PM Posted February 7, 2010 at 06:55 PM I was wondering if anyone wanted to do some target practice in Heli's like AH-64 or AH-1, or maybe MEDEVAC Mission in HH-60's, in Alaska. Thanks

Norman Blackburn Posted February 7, 2010 at 07:50 PM Posted February 7, 2010 at 07:50 PM Michael, What Ernesto means is that you can't engage in those style of activities unless you are both members of an approved (military) VSOA. Norman
Stephen Richey 985064 Posted February 7, 2010 at 10:31 PM Posted February 7, 2010 at 10:31 PM Not even medical evacuation flights? I can understand the military operations sort of thing but isn't restricting HEMS flights a bit much, even if it is a USCG or USAF operation? Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted February 7, 2010 at 10:47 PM Posted February 7, 2010 at 10:47 PM medevacs you may not have an issue with, metro helicopters does this a lot. would be the same as lifeguard flights. you still wont get any preference from ATC tho. but target practice, combat ops and the like, thats a no no for non VSOA
Shane Lorigan 1080266 Posted February 7, 2010 at 11:15 PM Posted February 7, 2010 at 11:15 PM Well i it's VSOA only for combat or SAR, but medivac flights are really only point to point flights, any way i'm always up for a heli flight Helicopters All the way Fly Shannon Proud Eiresim Customer ... I understand the reasoning behind the combat ops restrictions, but can not see any reason why I if I want to take a helicopter out and fly search patterns in the keys I should have to go through all the headache of becoming a member of the vUSCG, etc. ZLA Pilot Cert I-
Michael Stein 1035507 Posted February 8, 2010 at 03:22 AM Author Posted February 8, 2010 at 03:22 AM May I ask why we cannot have a target practice? Its not like, I am flying through cities, I am making up targets in MOA's and I would actiivate the MOA before entering with live fire.

Joe Blow is flying his GA aircraft along following wherever his nose takes him. He knows nothing about your MOA. Norman
Michael Stein 1035507 Posted February 8, 2010 at 12:20 PM Author Posted February 8, 2010 at 12:20 PM But if JOe Blow was on UNICOM he would have heard me state that the MOA was active, with a general direction
Norman Blackburn Posted February 8, 2010 at 01:56 PM Posted February 8, 2010 at 01:56 PM By creating an MOA you are preventing a fellow VATSIM member from using that piece of airspace. The founders are emphatic that this won't be permitted. Norman
Michael Stein 1035507 Posted February 8, 2010 at 02:06 PM Author Posted February 8, 2010 at 02:06 PM Okay I see... but what if I were to use while there weren't any aircraft in the area for like 100NM, and when they got close say 20-30NM, I would exit the MOA? Would that work or still no
Norman Blackburn Posted February 8, 2010 at 02:22 PM Posted February 8, 2010 at 02:22 PM Michael, Your best friend is the VSOA regulations. You should take a read at these which should answer many of your questions. Norman
