Aleksandar Jovanovic 11460 Posted February 27, 2010 at 10:25 PM Posted February 27, 2010 at 10:25 PM HI guys I’m new to VATSIM and never try flying trough VATSIM using SB etc. I’m using FS2004 on Windows XP with Canada Alaska USA Terrain usually flying Archer III Baron B58 and some heavy pains from captain sim and PMDG. I have many hours flying on my FS2004 but I don’t have that real talk-to-talk btw pilot and tower I need that experience. Can someone tell me where I can find step by step how should pilot talk to ground control what kind of request he should ask, how should pilot talk to departure, tower, what kind of request he should ask before landing etc etc… My email is: [email protected] Thanks

Larry James 901346 Posted February 28, 2010 at 10:01 AM Posted February 28, 2010 at 10:01 AM I read it but didn't help me . Hi, Aleksandar. The Link Wycliffe gave you has links on it. Did you click on any of the links? I believe a good start would have been to click on the , “VATSIM Quick Start Guide” link. If cource it also has the “Pilot Resource Center (PRC)” link that Ernesto gave you, which is says, “Contains all of the information you will need to fly on the network.” I strongly encorage you to book mark the PRC in your browser and to visit it frequently. You’ll find a lot of useful information that you can also book mark, that will address many questions you haven’t gotten to yet. I believe a good link for your immediate question is item #4 in the VATSIM Quick Start Link ( http://www.vatsim.net/pilots/quickstart/ ). Look at the bold item #4 on that page. Others might have some discussion on this with more precise (technical) wording, but in general, you will contact the first controller available in your immediate hierarchy and ask for clearance to the Airport you want to fly. The delivery controller (which you will use according to the hierarchy chart provided by the link in the bold item #4) will notice your flight plan and give you your clearance, and include who you contact next. While many VATSIMers speak harshly of how the builtin ATC falls short, I found it an excellent resource for helping me to get started with the flow. I copied the text dialog between the pilots and controllers from Flight Simulator and studied and practiced it like a speech. That was especially necessary for me, as I have a bad stutter when I talk. After that practice, I don’t think the VATSIM controllers would readily know that. -- L. James -- L. D. Bryan Olynyk 1041251 Posted March 1, 2010 at 02:44 PM Posted March 1, 2010 at 02:44 PM Aleks, You may be able to find some controllers at slower airports to help you practice. I staff Tower at CYZF, CYEG and CYYC when I find myself with a few spare hours, so if you see me on, I'd be more than happy to practice clearances, and other communications with you. Sometimes having a human on the other end speeds up the learning. Of course, all the advice above is important. You have to have a general sense of whats going on and whats expected of you. Just like pilots in the real world, you should be self sufficient, but don't be afraid to ask questions. You'll probably find people very friendly and helpful. Tim Murphy Posted March 1, 2010 at 04:12 PM Posted March 1, 2010 at 04:12 PM Welcome to VATSIM - and with that, welcome to VATCAN! To help you as well, try logging on to an airport and tuning into the different frequencies. Listening to pilot/ATC on vatsim will be a little easier than on liveatc.net. Do not get me wrong, I am sitting here at work right now with Liveatc.net on right now! A great source of company Keep an eye out on vatspy or VRoute to see where ATC is online. Thanks and keep in touch! Tim Help a newbie! http://czqm.ca QM/QX Instructor
Marc Wheeler Posted March 2, 2010 at 11:58 AM Posted March 2, 2010 at 11:58 AM Do you guys know where I can find SID/STAR maps for fsnavigator 4.7 ? I believe Navigraph has updates for FS Navigator. http://Navigraph.com Keep in mind that you will have to buy credits to get these updates, but it is inexpensive and well worth it IMHO.
