Sunday Night Ops for 7th March 2010 - New Plymouth (NZNP), Tauranga (NZTR), and Napier (NZNR)

It's Anniversary Day this weekend in Taranaki, and to celebrate we're adding some new regional services to New Plymouth airport (NZNP).

Join the fun by flying between three great North Island regional centres: New Plymouth, Tauranga, and Napier. Each flight sector is around 120nm so it's perfectly suited for turbo-props and small jets. With roughly forty-five minute flight times, the goal is to start at any of the three airports, and complete the full circuit back to your starting point via the other two.

This is an opportunity for pilots and controllers to spend some time discovering the fun of operating in the North Island's smaller centres. The challenge here is to fill the skies in a part of the VATNZ airspace that doesn't often see enough traffic to attract regular ATC.

  • Event Times: Sunday 7th March 2010 1900-2330 NZDT / 0600-1030 UTC / 1700-2130 AEDT
  • Flight Time/Route:
NOTE: start the evening at ANY of the three airports and fly a complete circuit in either direction back to your starting point via the other two.

  • Priority ATC Positions:
    NZNP_TWR - New Plymouth Tower
    NZTG_TWR - Tauranga Tower
    NZNR_TWR - Napier Tower
    NZCH-B_CTR, NZOH_CTR - Enroute Control

Note: Controllers, if you're providing ATC on the night, please give priority to these positions. They are not an exclusive list, but they are the ones that will see the most action this Sunday.

To reserve a particular ATC position, please post a message to that effect (including the times you expect to be online) in this thread. If possible, also book your position using vroute - large numbers of bookings in vroute attract additional traffic.

  • Late-comers/Shorter Alternative: There's no such thing as a long flight this week! If you're short on time, fly only two sectors instead of the three you need to complete the full circuit.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me, or reply to this thread.
