Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted March 17, 2010 at 06:30 PM Posted March 17, 2010 at 06:30 PM Gentlemen (and ladies!), As Malta "Project-Coordinator", I feel there is need for an update to the current scenario within this developing vACC. First of all I'd like to thank all of the controllers, and pilots who have either controlled or flew in to, and around the Malta FIR/UIR. Your support is much appreciated, and the task ahead cannot be completed without your continued support. As I'm sure you're all aware, Malta falls into the VATUED "Open Skies" initiative, where, any controller irrespective of vACC within VATEUD can log onto any controller position within Malta that their GRP2 Controller-Rating allows. I'm so far pleased and impressed with the number of people interested in providing ATC in this region. So far, there has been a total of 24.5 hours of CTR ATC provided, and 22.5 hours of APP ATC provided since the policy came into practice. This may not sound a lot, but, for a new and developing region, this is quite a development in my opinion. So again, warm thanks to those who have provided ATC so far - let it grow and continue! So far, as "Project-Leader", I have developed a "basic ATC guide" to controlling in Malta. Admittedly, it is not yet 100% finished as the version I have compiled so far is awaiting VATEUD review - a process which is quite time consuming. Quite a few of you who have either enquired about controlling in Malta, or have logged on and have been in contact with myself, have this incomplete copy, as mentioned, it contains most information but not all. Whilst this has been going on, there has been a new .ese file for Euroscope users developed which again, is awaiting review by VATEUD. Quite a few of you have this incomplete copy, as mentioned; it contains most information but not all. . Contained in this .ese file, there are/is amended COPX points, FIR boundaries, hand-off list, co-ordination list, SIDs for departure list, modified ground layout which the controller can choose to display and a few other bits and pieces. For those who do not wish to wait for "official testing" and scrutiny, are welcome to download these files - PM me or, e-Mail me for the details. Whilst a few may take the standing of "it hasn't yet been tested, do not use it", please consider the fact that before these were compiled, there was either an existing by incomplete/incorrect sector file and .ese so, by that reasoning "every little helps". Once these files have "official approval", they will hopefully be uploaded to the VATEUD website. Until this happens, they are kindly being hosted (free of charge) very kindly by a fellow VATSIM member - credit and thanks to Cillian Long for compilation of this new .ese and (temporary) hosting of which. When the approval has been sought and the files hosted, the development/amendment of a current vACC website will commence, this brings exciting developments and boasts the potential of the vACC. Whilst that is happening behind the scenes, I hope to see an increase in "Controller-Power", i.e. more controllers logging on providing ATC coverage within Malta. I would like to make it clear that there will be controllers of all nationalities controlling here and welcome the experience that every individual has. Whilst this is so, the "official" language of VATSIM remains English, i.e. all services provided must be in English unless of course the pilot(s) whom you're communicating with are unable to fully understand any instruction(s), I'd ask that careful discretion is used when the utilization of different languages comes into play. Thinking hopeful and optimistically, I'd like to see Malta's first "official" VATSIM event within the enxt few weeks. Either with/including: Hellenic vACC, VATCAF/ME and VATITA. I'm sure careful consideration will be used in the selection of venues for the event(s) but, this is just a taster/idea of what is hopefully "on the cards". Once again, thanks to everyone's efforts and dedication to this developing vACC - the establishment of this vACC will not be possible without it! Cheers, Daniel. d-w-b[@]hotmail.co.uk for information. Daniel Eamon Brennan - C3

Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted March 22, 2010 at 07:32 AM Author Posted March 22, 2010 at 07:32 AM There will be a fly-in to Luqa on Sunday 28th March ~1400Z A small convoy of traffic (I've had quotes of between 8-12) pilots will be departing LICJ (Palmero) inbound Luqa. ATC positions are filling fast - only tower left. Anyone else looking to fly is more than welcome to do so. Why not depart one of the sun-filled Greek Islands, or the wonderous deserts of Egypt, Tunisia and enjoy the wonderful landscapes of the Mediterranean. *note, due to small traffic loads, LMMM_E_CTR will not be required Cheers, Daniel. Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted March 22, 2010 at 07:00 PM Author Posted March 22, 2010 at 07:00 PM Stoning for you then Pedro if it does! So far all ATC positions have been booked for two hours from 1400Z-1600Z. Remember if you're in the UK (or anywhere else that likes to advance the clocks, this time is not local.) There will be an updated procedures guide available soon to use until it is officially "approved" by VATEUD. I would kindly ask that all controllers use this until any changes are made so that we are all singing from the same sheet. Cheers, Daniel. Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted March 24, 2010 at 03:15 PM Author Posted March 24, 2010 at 03:15 PM The .ese and .sct files should be appearing on the VATEUD website soon, along with the ops. guide. For the time being they can be found at: http://longwayahead.net/LMMM_FIR/ With thanks for Cillian Long for hosting these and compiling them. The guide isn't on there yet however - I plan to have this arranged within the next couple of days. I also aim to "borrow" some webspace for a temporary forum where controllers can create an account and discuss various issues and see who is around within this developing vACC. Have fun! Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted May 16, 2010 at 09:26 AM Author Posted May 16, 2010 at 09:26 AM Dear All, We are still looking for NEW controllers within VATEUD to control in Malta to establish a regular presence and develop a smooth flow of regular traffic. We have established weekly on-line evenings, organised one event, and have another one being rescheduled. There is a new website due for release very soon with all the information a Pilot or Controller needs to fly and/or control in Malta. We are working very hard to develop new LoAs with surrounding vACCs and have constructed a Controlling Procedures Guide available in .doc, or .pdf format. We have developed a new sector file and .ese file for the VRC and Euroscope users amongst us; Euroscope is highly recommended however for the full-use of the extensive features this client has to offer. There is a temporary forum which can be found at: http://www.vaccmalta.eu/forum/. When the new website goes live within the next week or so, there will be a fully integrated phpbb3 forum for all to use. So come on! Take part today! Any questions are to be directed to myself at: director[@]vaccmalta.eu (remove the square brackets before sending your 'mail!) Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted September 18, 2010 at 08:48 AM Author Posted September 18, 2010 at 08:48 AM (edited) Fellas and ladies, I have been in communication with vACC Germany for a short while and, have managed to negotiate an event which would include Frankfurt-Main and either Zurich or Geneva. The idea of this event is to again support the construction of the vACC, whilst providing tip-top ATC for pilots' and controllers' enjoyment alike. The proposed date is: Saturday 2nd October. Pilots can also expect Eurocontrol coverage should Italian units be absent i.e. EURS. The event is not a "triangle" event as such - i.e. the focus is not on Gerona/Zurich <-> Frankfurt-Main shuttles - but inbounds and outbounds of Luqa to/from these airports. I'll set up a form so you can all list your availability. We have not decided a time yet, so please sit tight for updates! Cheers, Daniel. http://www.doodle.com/kk3ftczn7vg5ttu3 <---for controllers only. Please add your name and availibilty for this event. The times are in Zulu have appeared in PM. Please add your availbility ASAP! Edited September 18, 2010 at 11:29 PM by Guest Daniel Eamon Brennan - C3

Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted September 30, 2010 at 11:47 AM Author Posted September 30, 2010 at 11:47 AM Ladies and gents: Malta supported by VATSIM Germany and VACC Switzerland Dear pilots, following VATEUD's great Open Sky initiative, VATSIM Germany and VACC Switzerland decided to organise an event to support Malta. In order to make Malta more appealing to both pilots and controllers, we will be staffing Frankfurt International Airport, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg EuroAirport, and Luqa Malta International Airport on Saturday 2 October 2010 starting 1800 Zulu. We invite all pilots to encourage and support Malta on this day by flying either Frankfurt <--> Malta or Basel <--> Malta as often as you can. Malta International Airport was voted best international airport 2010 in the 1-5 million p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]engers category of and the controllers there will do their best to live up to that standard by giving you the best service. It is your contribution to help filling Malta's skies. VATSIM Germany and VACC Switzerland are well-known presences in the world of VATSIM, so, as usual, you can expect the best service in both Frankfurt and Basel. Controllers from both Germany and Switzlerland will be meeting to provide you with the finest ATC live from the Badisch Control Center in Karlsruhe. We will also make sure that the airspace between Switzerland is covered by either Italian controllers or Eurocontrol in order to provide a consistent route coverage without gaps. Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted October 2, 2010 at 08:30 PM Author Posted October 2, 2010 at 08:30 PM yeah and they will manage That was the plan, Peter I arrived home earlier than I originally anticipated (just as the event was getting started), anyone who lives in the 'UK and knows anything about the M6, will know that it's difficult to predict one's ETA! From what I have observed, the event seems to have been highly enjoyable for all the controllers and, hopefully, pilots who flew in and/or out of Luqa this evening. A big "well-done" to all those involved! I'd like to thank all controllers who stepped up to the mark and who gave up their free time on a Saturday night to control - likewise to pilots also. This event would not have been possible without the help and dedication of Nizar and his German and Swiss colleagues - we even now have a nice, new, super posh logo! So again, thanks to all who participated. Cheers, Daniel. Daniel Eamon Brennan - C3
