Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted April 13, 2010 at 06:20 PM Posted April 13, 2010 at 06:20 PM Hello All, I have a question about the use of vasfmc. It is a great add-on for those aircraft that do not have an FMC. I have downloaded all three versions; 1 (which as mentioned in several threads looks nothing like an FMC but functions well), MS Standalone, and FS9 Gauges. All three can be used with any aircraft I have, but of the three, the standalone version is my favorite because it looks like an FMC and doesn't require me to install an Airbus A320 panel in my Boeing 757 and I'm not sure I like the "Take Control" attitude of the gauges version, especially autothrottle control and refusing to give me back control of my throttles.. My dilemna is that the standalone version seems to have been designed with installation on a second system in mind. This would work great if I had a second computer to display the FMC on, because I do have registered versions of FSUIPC and WIDEFS. But instead I have to continually minimize FS9 and go to my desktop to make changes to the flightplan when given a waypoint or "direct to" vector by ATC. As I said above, I do not like using an A320 Panel in a B757 so I thought why not just add the MCDU portion of vasfmc to my panel.cfg and use the GPS Icon to bring up the MCDU (the b-style FMC) from the cockpit. I have done that before when adding a better GPS than the FS9 default. Alas, I can't figure it out because the file types I typically see when modifying a panel don't seem to be the same as are used in vasfmc. For instance, the actual CDU "Case" in my PMDG is a .bmp file, but the "case" in vasfmc appears to be a .jpeg file. I know just enough about panels and gauges and their configuration to get myself in trouble. That's why I never use the aircraft I want to change to test my "frankensteins". I have an A319 just for my "experiments". When one goes terribly awry I simple "kill" off the A319 and create a new copy of the A319 I have that I use to fly. I even call her "Frankenstein". So, am I attempting something that may be impossible? All I want is the CDU to show up in my B757 cockpit which looks like the real B757 cockpit. I don't want or need the ND, PFD, EICAS, etc gauges from vasfmc, just the CDU so it is programmable. Randy Tyndall - KBOI ZLA I-11/vACC Portugal P4 “A ship is always safe in the harbor. Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted April 13, 2010 at 06:27 PM Posted April 13, 2010 at 06:27 PM its doable. just wont have any real use without the rest of the gauges. they only work with each other, they wont work with non vasfmc gauges. what id recommend if you find the stand alone version better, find yourself a cheap laptop, check on craigslist or other places like that, can find some great deals under $100, if your lucky even free, and use that for it. doesnt have to be anything powerful, itll only be used for running 3rd party stuff so doesnt have to be anything fancy
Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted April 13, 2010 at 06:53 PM Author Posted April 13, 2010 at 06:53 PM Hi Ernesto, I saw you browsing this thread and knew you used vasfmc and hoped you would reply. I appreciate your answer and really deep down knew that getting a second system would be best. I actually have an older junker PC and a switchbox to link it with this one. I know it would have to be connected to the internet to run FSInn or AS Evolution, but what about just for use of vasfmc. I could download Navigraph AIRAC updates and then manually move them to the second computer. The only thing that has been holding me back on actually using the second PC is space near my computer desk. Randy Tyndall - KBOI ZLA I-11/vACC Portugal P4 “A ship is always safe in the harbor. Charan Kumar Posted April 13, 2010 at 07:18 PM Posted April 13, 2010 at 07:18 PM Randy, what version of vasFMC are you using? In 1.0 it was easier to turn the A/P on and off from the CDU or some other panel, I forget which but it was just a button. Once that is turned off, ur MCDU hdg would be in your ctrl. If that was engaged, then the vasFMC CDU will control ur hdg. Its been a long time since I used it, but I have used vasFMC with FS9, FSX and XPlane without any problems and using only one computer. In version 2.0 you can use the speed ctrl from either the vasFMC MCDU or your own planes, depends on how you engage them. Just takes a lil' bit of trial and error to get the right combination. I have used it with some freeware Concordes and there was no way I was going to stick a Airbus panel in there When is your next Flight||VATSIM HitSquad Member, ZOA/ZAK/GANDER/P1
Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted April 13, 2010 at 07:36 PM Posted April 13, 2010 at 07:36 PM for fsinn and internet dependent programs itd definitely need to be connected to the net. if you have a router tho thats a simple thing to do, just connect it to the router with an ethernet cable, or if its wireless you can even run it wirelessly it wont need an internet connection tho if you just want it to run vasfmc. all you'd need to do is run it through widefs so itll be able to connect to your FS itd be good tho if it did connect, makes it very easy to pull up charts if you need them
GÜrsel Hazar 1090129 Posted November 22, 2010 at 09:10 AM Posted November 22, 2010 at 09:10 AM I am just wondering how to activate the FMC for the A380. Are we doing this via start menu (no "exe" file in there) or after starting the flight simulator and getting in the cockpit? If in cockpit, how? I cannot see any button to click to activate FMC as it can be seen in PMDG version aircraft. Please help, thank you.
Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted November 22, 2010 at 07:18 PM Author Posted November 22, 2010 at 07:18 PM I have the integrated version of vasFMC installed in my A330 and clicking the GPS icon brings up the FMC Control Panel for me.
