While flying with FSX, Active Sky X, and FSInn.....I have a problem with the cloud layers changing multiple times a minute. Does anybody know how to explain this?

That must be due to some type of flaw in ASX. I can't test FSX. But you can easily turn FSInn on and off on the fly without starting the sim to toggle between FSX's weather and FSInn's weather (or no weather at all).

If you're having a problem with turning ASX's weather on and off without restarting the sim you might consider checking with ASX's support people. I'd be surprised if they couldn't point out how to enable or disable their weather on the fly.

ASX controls weather only when the application is on, so closing ASX will pretty much stop ASX controlling the weather. I have done it many times and switched on FSInn weather (which is off by default) from the FSInn CP without having to get out of the sim. Likewise the reverse is also possible. As E pointed, only when both are enabled the cloud layers do a dance of on/off

If I close ASX when FSX runs, everything goes FUBAR...no I will not elaborate on that. Hi-Fly's Support team would probably suggest purchasing a new version of active sky.....no thanks

Hi, Andrew. A couple of us have specified the issue you have doesn’t have to happen. It’s clear by your message that you would prefer to just deal with the issue by using a work around (not using ASX on the fly) than have the issue addressed and resolved.

Peers here have given you working steps. We probably could identify your problem if you cared to elaborate in such a way that we could see where things are going awry. Or of course you could also use the support channel of your vendor. But, of course, you haven’t said they have denied giving support, you just plugged in your own response from them, which they might or might not do.

I don’t mean to impose, but I believe you workaround would leave a lot to be desired in the actual ASX environment.

Just to piggyback here, I have AS Evolution and am using FSInn 1.3 as well in FS9 on an XP OS. I haven't really noticed an issue with ASE and FSInn competing for control of the weather, but out of curiousity I tried to disable FSInn weather from the control panel by clicking on the "cloud" to the right of "VATSIM". Nothing happened. By that I mean the "cloud" wouldn't turn on/off. I've read both the manual for ASE and for FSInn and don't see a reference to it, but I presume ASE is using VATSIM weather and won't let me disable it. The reason I say this is often times I will see a METAR at an enroute airport the ends in the phrase "VATSIM INTERJECTION".

No real issue, just an observation.

must have missed the part to disable weather from your settings, not the cloud

Hi, Randy. You brought up a good and interesting point. I hope this helps to clarify.

This is referenced via the Please Read Sticky (the two messages of the bold item #1) of the FSInn Help Forum. Look at the first of the two messages (the FSInn Installation Sticky). You'll see a reference to Weather (in the trouble shooting section).

I strongly encourage people to read the Installation Sticky. I keep it very small to make it easy to read in its entirety.

As mentioned in that sticky you turn FSInn's weather off by clicking on the CAVOK button. You turn it on by clicking on the VATSIM Cloud. They are not toggle switches. One is an On switch, the other is an Off switch.

FSInn will not activate an alternate weather such as FSX's weather. When you turn off FSInn's weather (by clicking on the CAVOK button) you'll be without weather until you activate an alternate weather such as Flight Simulator's weather (or in your case ASX's weather).

If you click on the Cloud button to enable FSInn's weather (FSInn's engine for VATSIM's weather) it will turn off Flight Simulator's weather. However, it won't bother anything else that you have going such as ASX. So if you choose to use FSInn's weather, you'll have to manually run off ASX's weather. You don't have to manually turn off Flight Simulator's weather.

Thanks, Larry. I appreciate your help, as always.

My apologies, Ernesto. I did not realize from your first post you were referring to the "Settings" tab. Must have missed that.

Hey Larry, I apologize for the tone of that last message. I think most of my frustration comes from the issues I have every time I reformat and reinstall...it always seems to be something. I understand and appreciate all the help you, and others willingly provide....do not mistake that!

I am quite busy at the moment and I have not had much time to fly, but I will continue to share my experiences as best I can--I seem to have all the problems one can possibly have with software, I don't mind being the lab rat. Yes I read the stickies, in fact I have them saved on my storage hard drive
