Glen Watson 929030 Posted May 8, 2010 at 08:41 AM Posted May 8, 2010 at 08:41 AM Weston Flight Sim. Convention 2010 http://www.fscweston.co.uk Throughout the weekend of the 15th and 16th May the hangars and display buildings of the World famous Helicopter Museum in Weston-Super-Mare will be brimming with over 50 flight simulators of various shapes and sizes demonstrating the controls and maneuverability of a myriad of aircraft including helicopters, fighter jets and p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]enger airliners. Visitors will be able to test fly all these aircraft at no extra cost. Maintaining the WW2 atmosphere inside the entrance to museum hanger on display will be an Army signals station with a desk equipped with phones, radio etc, dispatch riders and their motorcycles and a wall decorated with a bombed out street scene. Outside at the rear of museum two 90cm Searchlights will be in place surrounded by sand bags and protected by a tripod mounted Bren gun. A Bell tent, Sentry post, WW2 Ambulance, Bofors Anti Aircraft gun will also add to the visitor experience. A team of Vatsim-UK Controllers and Pilots will be attending the Convention to show off what Vatsim has to offer. Throughout the weekend, we will be staffing up Bristol EGGD and Cardiff EGFF as they are the most local positions to the event. The pilot cohort will be showing off their side of the scope allowing the paying public to see how their flight simulator connects to the network, and how it interacts with virtual Air Traffic Control. To be able to promote the network as best we can, and show off the software and setups, we need as much traffic and adjacent control as possible during the day. Without aircraft to control... we are useless!! We will have a projector running showing the radar scope, and want to make this look as busy as possible with IFR, VFR, Military jets and props, not to mention heli's. Even if you have a spare 20minutes, please try and fly!! Plans have been in place for a number of months now as to how the Vatsim-UK stand will operate and how it will be promoted. Due to the nature of the event, it is important to stress that this is not a turn up and control event. The purpose of the weekend is to allow companies and organisations to show off what they have to offer on a professional basis to promote operations and flight simulation. Therefore, whilst it would be great for as many members of the UK to drop in and visit us as possible, those not on the promotion team will be unable to control or set up. The event will run from 1000BST - 2100BST on Saturday 15th May, and 1000BST - 1700BST on the Sunday. Those of you wishing to pay the stand and the show a visit, admission is £5.50 for Adults, £4.50 concession, and £3.50 for under 16's. We look forward to seeing as many of you fly and visit as possible! FSC Team Glen Watson
