Gary Feddema 1032654 Posted June 2, 2010 at 05:10 AM Posted June 2, 2010 at 05:10 AM The Toronto FIR and Boston ARTCC have joined up to present an exciting new event Toronto vs Boston Cross Fire. An invitation goes out to everyone to participate in the inaugural event which will take place on June 21st, starting at at 2300Z. The theme of the event is staged as a battle, and the gloves are off. In the good spirit of our partnership between Toronto and Boston we are going to battle it out to see who can land the most aircraft on the others airport. One arrival counts as one punch and who ever sends the most arrivals at the end of the night wins. So come out in force and support your side, let's see which airport can fire the most planes at its opponent. Aharon Dayan Posted June 15, 2010 at 08:07 PM Posted June 15, 2010 at 08:07 PM In future, I would appreciate if CYYZ and VATCAN, when announcing any event for any of its Canadian airports, should put the info on when the event ends. CYYZ and VATCAN are the only one who never bother to put end of time on all events leaving many pilots wondering when the events end. All other Vatsim or airport divisions always announce beginning and end times of each event of all their airports. Last time (last Saturday), I made arrangements for myself and other Canadian pilots to fly from CYQB to KBOS to CYYZ so that we could enjoy combination of two exciting airport events (KBOS and CYYZ) in ONE NIGHT only to find out that 2 minutes before landing on CYYZ, all CYYZ controllers signed off at 10 pm EST when all of us were under impression that the event would end at 11 pm EST. I told CYYZ controller that I thought the event would end on 11 pm. They said no and they told me that the event ended at 10 pm EST. If the controllers knew when the CYYZ event would end, then why did they NOT announce end of time on the event announcements??? I asked CYYZ controllers if they would stay until 11 pm EST for other pilots flying from KBOS to CYYZ. The controllers refused. Until VATCAN enforces policy of making sure all Canadian event announcements should have beginning AND end time, I cannot recommend to all my friends any VATCAN events WITHOUT information on what time events end . I would recommend to my pals ONLY VATCAN events that organizers show courtesy of revealing beginning and END times of the event time. Marc Wheeler Posted June 15, 2010 at 08:25 PM Posted June 15, 2010 at 08:25 PM I think you do have a valid point to a certain extent. If event coordinators have an idea of when the event end it would be nice if it is indicated, however I don't think a end time should be enforced as a lot of times controllers will stay online until there is little or no traffic left and I seem to recall seeing this indicated somewhere. Michael Avila 1077868 Posted June 16, 2010 at 01:22 AM Posted June 16, 2010 at 01:22 AM Hi guys, While I cannot speak for CZYZ, at CZQM we have been doing 0200Z or until traffic is out. I agree that maybe we can set an end time but expand it if we see more traffic. Mike CZQM/CZQX EC

Paul Byrne Posted June 17, 2010 at 06:15 PM Posted June 17, 2010 at 06:15 PM Hi, For your information, ZBW will have at least a CTR online till 0300Z (11pm local). This is not an official stance, just a fact because I will be there (barring any unforseen circomestance) . Looking forward to this. Cheers!
