XSquakBox voice stops working

I am running into a recurring problem when flying. The audio just stop working. The only indication I have is that the controller has to text me to ask if I am receiving audio. My solution is to shut down X-Plane and restart. While exiting X-Plane, I do hear a couple of words that maybe left over in a buffer. When I restart X-Plane, audio works fine. I did read in a FAQ on the XSquakbox website that users should not pause the flightsim or open any dialog boxes that go modal. I have not done this but the audio still stops working without apparent cause.

Software I am running:

  • Ubuntu 10.04
    X-Plane 9.55rc3
    XSquakBox 1.0.3
    vasFMC 2.0a9

I want this to work. I will not go back to Windoze and FSX.

hate to say this dude but the above might be your problem right there. That said I could be totally wrong and your Linux driven Ubuntu or whatever it is might be just fine and it is another issue entirely.

I would suggest checking your provider, router, firewall, (oh you dont need those do you) as Ubuntu is perfect.

Oh well that's my knowledge store drained, what a pity your not using WIn 7, FSinn and FSX, I could have sorted that in seconds.

cough..cough...

Or MacOSX 10.6, Xsquawkbox, and X-Plane 9.55, which I never have issues with either.

So, Wycliffe, why post in the Xsquawkbox forum, if you really have nothing to add here? =)

Andrew, check out the following forums on the x-plane.org servers:

Loss of voice with Linux is a known issue. I believe I may have a fix in-hand and hopefully will get a chance to implement it now.

Thanks Wade for the update. I thought I was alone with this problem, but after reading through the forums, I found that this a reproducible event others were having. Thank you for contributing to the flightsim community and addressing this problem.

I've never had a report of loss of sound on Windows.

Is it all sound or just voice?

How long does it happen?

Is there anything you can do that makes it come back?

It is all sound

It happens everytime I use xsb

The only way to get it back is to reboot the PC.

Thanks for any help you can provide

Hmm...don't know what help I can provide.

Does it happen immediately? After some time? When switching radio channels?

What other programs that use sound are open?

Additionally, try updating your sound card driver. Sound has worked fine in Windows for XP and Vista and has not changed. So while it's possible we're doing something wrong, it's really not all that likely given the many years it's been working fine.

anywhere between something like 4 and 40 minutes.

Google Chrome running

Ill try updating the driver, however last time I went looking for the driver I couldn't find it. Not very good with the old driver updates.

Sound Card is: Realtek ALC 888S HD audio 7.1: Integrated

Thanks for all your help.
