Anders Henriksen 1018158 Posted August 10, 2010 at 05:44 PM Posted August 10, 2010 at 05:44 PM Hi guys, In the next few months there will be a project on a global update of the ServInfo data files for VATSIM. Last time was in 2007 and since then many ARTCC/FIR/VACC has changed boundaries and callsign’s on one or several positions. Some new airports, airline logos and CTR/FSS positions are also missing. What I need from all of you that have made an update on ServInfo files in your ARTCC/VACC since 2007 is to send a text file to me with the changes on this email address: servinfo2010(at)gmail.com no later then 1st of October 2010. I need to know what data to remove and what to add, and therefore will a complete Servinfo.dat and FIR.dat file not help me at all since I do not know what has changed. This file show what has changed in Norway since 2007, if we all stick to that (or similar) setup my job will be easy and not time wasting After the ServInfo file is done it will be easy to convert this to VatSpy as well, so you can expect both programs to be up to date later this year. __________________ Anders Henriksen Director of Norway FIR VACC Scandinavia

We are working on the data right now but did not have the VA list on the scope so far. What do you exactly need for that? Alex

Anders With regards to the hard-coded FIR boundaries in Servinfo, how is it possible to alter these boundaries without actually rewriting the actual software itself ? Have you found a way to do this ? I am looking to update the UK FIR into sub-sectors to show on the map "within" the EGTT FIR but the only way I can see is to alias the control names which in turn only lights up the whole FIR. Can you shed any light on this please ? Ross Carlson Posted September 14, 2010 at 09:11 PM Posted September 14, 2010 at 09:11 PM With regards to the hard-coded FIR boundaries in Servinfo, how is it possible to alter these boundaries without actually rewriting the actual software itself ? The boundaries are not hard-coded. They are defined in a file in the ServInfo installation folder. (If I remember right, it's called FIR.dat) I am looking to update the UK FIR into sub-sectors to show on the map "within" the EGTT FIR but the only way I can see is to alias the control names which in turn only lights up the whole FIR. I haven't tried this, but it might be possible to define new FIR entries in the FIR.dat and ServInfo.dat files, one for each sub-sector. I think you'd have to use callsigns that make the first part of the callsign unique to the sub-sector, such as EGTT1_CTR, EGTT2_CTR, etc. Again, I have no idea if this would work, but it's the only method I could think of that has any hope of working. The only way to show sub-sectors in ServInfo is to show them as FIRs, so it'd look very messy on ServInfo when all the UIRs and TMAs are online. And then you've got the problem that airports like Manchester will only show up on the 'Manchester TMA' FIR page, and not the London FIR page, even though its in the London FIR. Its just a limitation of ServInfo unfortunately.

Failing that, when do you anticipate the next update to take place ?
