Larry James 901346 Posted October 11, 2010 at 02:33 PM Posted October 11, 2010 at 02:33 PM I’m finally able to view FSX in its fullness. For years I have upgraded my computer once or twice a year. For the past 6 months I upgraded it once or twice a month until I have a little more than entry level. I still believe the system is substantially modest because most of the components I picked out were in the mid price ranges of the available parts. Many of them such as the I7 CPU and Motherboard are in the lowest price range of the available parts. The system cost was $1099.19. Two of the components (the SSD drive and the CPU fan replacement) weren’t a requirement which would have placed the cost at 889.84. So you can run the sliders in FSX maxed for under $1000.00. The computer is running on Windows 7 64bit. I tested the system before adding the SSD drive and it ran FSX sufficient fast with all sliders maxed out (including all traffic at major airports – which was just a test, but not for VATSIM). I added the SSD drive later. It speeds up many components of the computer environment. Before the SSD drive it took nearly two hours to install from the OS all the way up to FSX with all service packs and FSInn. The SSD drive cut that time down to under 25 minutes. The 60 gig SSD contains the OS and Flight Simulator X. Windows 7 was installed in about 15 minutes. It took about 7 minutes to install FSX and the two patches. -- L. James -- L. D. For FSInn/VATSIM issues, please test the FSInn Installation sticky and linked FAQ. It really works!
Erhan Atesoglu 1050499 Posted October 13, 2010 at 03:31 PM Posted October 13, 2010 at 03:31 PM Awesome... looks like a solid system. And at an excellent price too. I also stick to midrange priced components. Buy cheap, buy often! http://www.pond64.net
